Buzz-kill
Since Uncle Sam needs all the cash it can get its hands on to pay for President Barack Obama’s new socialist empire, they’re turning increasingly to “sin taxes” to bridge the gap.
Wait … “bridge the gap?”
Who are we kidding. With over $13 trillion spent, lent or pledged on “economic recovery” (on top of an existing $10 trillion debt), the gap between what America’s leaders are spending and what the American taxpayers owe will never be bridged.
Not without a revolution.
So why not say f*ck it and have a drink and a smoke?
Oh wait … smokers are already forking over more than 62 cents more per pack (as of last month) and now the feds are poised to jack the tax on beer.
From the NY Daily News:
Drunk on power and dazed by ambition, members of Congress have stumbled upon a novel way to keep their spending binge rolling — and leave American taxpayers with the hangover.
Under a Senate proposal, Congress would raise the federal excise tax on beer by 145 percent to more than $3 a case.
Uncle Sam also would snatch an additional $7 on a case of wine — a staggering increase of 233 percent and an additional 20 percent on hard liquor sales.
“Buzz-kill doesn’t even begin to describe this invasion,” said a GOP congressional aide.
Of course, for all you teetotalers out there who think that sin taxes are okay because you don’t have to pay them, don’t forget that raising taxes of any kind means lost private sector revenue, which means lost jobs … which (whoa) means more government handouts, more crime … it’s a vicious cycle, we know.
Oh, and the proposals introduced today would also jack the tax on soda pop …

Since most of the major beer companies are European or Chinese, I say tax ‘em! (it’s not like tens of thousands of Americans don’t die every year from alcohol-related deaths)

If one is a true Christain Republican this is the perfect answer to what we are taught in church, that alchol and tobacco are sins. Increasing the sin tax on these vices serves two goals-increased revenues for those who continue to violate the templates of our Lord and salvation for those who chose to follow the Bible. You can not be a true Christain Republican and not support a tax that stops others from committing a sin.
