Bauer “Blanketed” By Viers
We’re still waiting on the video from this exchange, but S.C. Rep. Thad Viers reportedly “went off” on Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday.
Bauer showed up in the House chamber to press the flesh with lawmakers who were about to vote on Gov. Mark Sanford’s annual veto of funding for Bauer’s totally unnecessary security detail.
Taxpayer-funded lobbying at its worst, right?
Anyway, Viers – who has had a long-running feud with Bauer – stepped to the podium and flat out blasted the Lt. Governor, at one point telling him to go back to handing out “blankets to old people.”
Bauer has been repeatedly chastised for politicizing the Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging, which has come under intense fire for scamming the very senior citizens it was established to protect.
In fact, La Liberbad (a.k.a. The Greenville News) had an in-depth story last week detailing Bauer’s excessive politicization of the office.

I heard Thad was threatened with primary opposition by Andre if Thad did not vote to override the Governor’s veto on the Lt. Governor’s security detail.

I have no love for Bauer, but Viers is a syncophantic wingnut of the first order. He humilated himself by lying about threats he made over the phone, then pled guilty after learning they were recorded. Obviously he has some anger management issues and should have been voted out in the last election, but the dems in Horry were too disorganized to run ayone against him.

Thad is a great Representative of the people in Horry County. There is not a harder working legislator in Columbia.

Bauer is so gimmicky. Everything he does is is to promote himself through auctions, handng our blankets, walking across the state, waving off bridges, speeding, etc. He would best be suited where his skills are useful…American Red Cross, His House, United Way, Peace Corps…

Andre, it must be nice to be a Republican that runs as a conservative, and know that your biggest and stongest block of voters in the general assembly are the free spending democrats.
Without the dems, he would never get his security detail.
