A Super Super Verchenova
Our original plan was to reprint the lyrics to the Liz Phair song “Why Can’t I?” into this post … or was it “Supernova?”
Needless to say, we’re more than a little bit distracted at the moment.
Seriously, you thought Natalie Gulbis was hot? Meet Russian sensation Maria Verchenova, the 23-year-old Muscovite who has our founding editor screaming “Glastnost, baby!”
Oh, and mailing off his application to caddy school.
From Golf365:
The 23-year-old from Moscow was introduced to golf by her father on a holiday to the Czech Republic and since that day she has been transfixed by the sport, refusing to be dissuaded by the lack of opportunities in a country with just three golf courses.
The first Russian to become a full-time member of the Ladies’ European Tour, she secured her first top-10 finish in Wales in her rookie year of 2007.
In 2008 he career took another step forward as she broke the top five in Tenerife and contended for the lead with Annika Sorenstam in the end-of-year Dubai Ladies Masters.
She is not only proving herself a fine player in her own right, she is also paving the way for other young Russian girls – her sister Anna included.
Clearly the lesbians on the tour are upset by this, but hey … if Maria succeeds in bringing out Lindsay Lohan this could be the LPGA’s big break.
You also gotta love a girl who instinctively answers “driver” when asked what her favorite club is.
Seriously, “swoon.”
Now if we can only figure out a way to delay the onset of the dreaded “Babushka effect …”

The tennis atire on a golf course is a bit odd – but I’m warming up to it.

i agree with James… it looks like she’s been yanked off the tennis courts, and handed a set of clubs. Wait, I just realized that I don’t care what she wear as she golfs, just how much of it. She’s smokin’ hot.
