This Ain’t Schlitz!

beer

You’d think that for all the bickering that goes on in South Carolina politics, one thing everyone could agree on is the sanctity of beer.

Apparently not.

A bill before the S.C. legislature that would provide “beer tastings” with the same legal treatment as wine tastings has run into a wall of opposition (a.k.a. S.C. Rep. Ken Kennedy).

And while we cannot fathom why anyone would object to “beer tasting,” an e-mail alert from the Charleston Beer Exchange has politicos buzzing … and not in a good way.

Here’s an excerpt from the e-mail alert that the group sent its supporters yesterday urging them to contact Rep. Kennedy:

I suggest EVERYONE send him an email in support of the tasting bill and if you can give his office a call. An email will take 3 minutes of your time. Remind him that this is craft beer (not 40’s of Schlitz) and tastings foster an appreciation, exactly like wine (wineries in SC can already do this). You all know the reasons why tastings are important: commerce, small business growth, tax revenue……

Not “40’s of Schlitz?”

Uhh … that’s a pretty enlightened way to make your point to an African-American lawmaker, isn’t it?

You gotta love how far political correctness has brought us!

In fact, the only thing that could’ve made this e-mail any more side-splitting would have been a reference to Billy Dee Williams and Colt 45!
