Hold the presses, but S.C. Rep. Ted Pitts (R-Lexington) is running for Lt. Governor.

We know, we know … it’s amazing you didn’t hear about this on CNN given the sweeping power of this office and the respect it commands around the globe.

Crazy …

Anyway, Pitts is announcing his decision live via his campaign website this morning, which we’re assuming is intended to show us his mastery of new technology.

Pitts – a four-term House member – is actually one of the few Republicans in the legislature with a decent (emphasis on decent) voting record.

Additionally, he’s shown a pretty thick skin in taking shots from us in the past (which we admire), although we would have preferred it had he remained true to his principles (and the principles of the party he represents) and not sold out to a bunch of status quo bureaucrats in Columbia – all for a House chairmanship he didn’t even get.

Oh well.

At least he took the criticism standing up as opposed to whining like a little girl, which is the default setting in Columbia.

Pitts is indeed a rung above the primordial ooze that infests the S.C. State House. At least that’s what our evolutionary chart tell us.

Unlike most of the redneck Gomers who write our laws and waste our money, Pitts at least has the capacity for rational thought and the potential for merit-based decision-making.

It’s getting him to use it that’s sometimes the problem.

And while the office he aspires to has slightly less power than our pinkie finger, the public doesn’t know that, and so they’ll focus on what he says over the course of this campaign like it actually matters.

Which it does, in a limited PR sense.

So … is Pitts a real reformer or just another Columbia chump in a suit?

We’ll find out based on the policy he proposes and positions he takes over the next 14 months …

Having worked with Ted on some stuff in the past, he has my vote. Head and shoulders above the run of the mile politico’s up there. Run, Ted, Run.

Let’s see Ted was named a taxpayer hero by Governor Mark Sanford and all you can say is he has a decent voting record. He has the same voting record of Kevin Bryant and Chip Campsen.

The real question is: Can we please get Bill Riser out of retirement to reclaim his past seat and his past glory?

Ted Pitts and Bill Connor would both make excellent LG’s. The other candidates that are mentioned…not so much.
