Here We Go Again

home-loans

Home ownership rates for African-Americans and native born Latinos have tapered off faster than rates for white Americans over the last four years.

At least that’s according to a report that will no doubt spawn cries for more of the same politically-correct lending that has landed our nation in its current economic malaise.

Of course the report does note that from 1995-2004, the same minority groups saw dramatically higher increases in home ownership than did white people – a trend which surprisingly didn’t result in government calls for “white assistance” programs.

Needless to say, that half of the equation didn’t make the New York Times headline.

Oh well.

Frankly we think that home ownership – like everything else – should be colorblind.

At least that’s what our wall poster of a white hand and black hand interlocking over a rainbow-colored peace sign tells us.

Still, there’s no denying that millions of people of lots of colors were given loans they couldn’t possibly pay back for homes they couldn’t possibly afford.

Of course, in a rare and no doubt accidental moment of honesty, the guy who helped conduct the report for the Pew Center pretty much summed up the government’s ongoing M.O.

“The force of assimilation into home ownership is strong,” he said.

No sh*t, dude.

Never underestimate the power of the government’s “force of assimilation.”

Could this also mean that these two group had the forsight to invest heavily in real estate holding during the growth years (’95-’04), and timed their exit just right?
