Los Angeles Dodgers’ outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended by Major League Baseball for violating the league’s drug policy.
Ramirez will be forced to sit for 50 games – or nearly two months.
The slugger says he wasn’t busted for taking steroids, but rather for taking a medication that he says he was prescribed “for a personal health issue.”
Sources are telling ESPN that Ramirez took a fertility drug that is typically prescribed to players when they are coming off of a steroid cycle.
For those of you who want the TMI, the drug Ramirez allegedly took helps the testicles produce testosterone again.
Ramirez – who is not a member of Sic Willie’s FITS Fartknockers fantasy baseball squad – was hitting a scorching .347 with 6 home runs and 20 RBI’s through the first five weeks of the season.
He will lose $8 million as a result of the suspension – or roughly a third of his 2009 salary.
Ramirez is one of the game’s all-time greats, a World Series MVP, twelve-time All-Star and member of the 500 HR club.
It’s unknown how a positive test under these circumstances will effect his legacy …
