Over the weekend, we covered the inspiring, against-all-odds, rags-to-riches story of Mine That Bird – the $9,500 gelding who came from the back of the pack to beat a field of millionaires in the 135th Kentucky Derby.

It was a thrilling “Run for the Roses,” so engrossing, in fact, that our focus was completely removed from the fun taking place on the infield at Churchill Downs.

Fortunately, the Sporting News was all over it.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, only three horses in history have ever finished the 1 1/4 mile Derby in under two minutes: Monarchos (2001), Secretariat (1973) and Sham (1973).
