Like We Said …
The Charleston, S.C. Post and Courier is skating on thin ice.
In fact, they’re about to receive one of our famously unflattering newspaper nicknames …
You know, like those bestowed upon their (our) competition in Columbia (La Socialista), Greenville (La Liberbad) and Anderson, S.C. (Tin Foil Hat Times).
What did the P&C do, precisely?
Well, after receiving advance email links and phone calls from us not once but twice, they finally got off their lazy, MSM asses and wrote a story in today’s papers outlining the current status of negotiations between the S.C. State Ports Authority and Maersk, which announced last December that it was pulling its business from the Port of Charleston.
Obviously, Maersk’s decision to bolt Charleston was the business story of 2008 in South Carolina – just as Maersk reversing part of that decision would be the business story of 2009, if it happens.
That’s why we’ve been following these negotiations so closely – and why we’ve been doing our best to keep everybody in the loop on what we’ve uncovered.
Apparently, the Post and Courier doesn’t want to be kept in the loop, though.
They’ve got their own sources, it turns out, and they don’t need – or want – our help.
That’s fine.
We’re not bitter. Or vindictive. Okay, okay, we may be a little bitter … but not vindictive.
In fact, our imaginary staff will continue to drive their coverage, and on the off-chance they beat us on a political or port-related scoop, we’ll keep giving them props, links and hundreds of hits … even as they continue to act like we don’t exist.
We’ll also keep calling them and directing their attention to matters we believe they should – and usually do – cover.
News is a possessive business, we’re discovering.
There’s not a lot of sharing.
And outlets like the Post and Courier fear blogs like ours the most, because they know there’s no way a dude sitting in an apartment with flip-flops and a wireless modem should be scooping multiple full-time employees on story after story after story …
Anyway, “like we said.”
And you’re welcome, P&C.

Sic…..
I don’t know…..?!?
The “Happy Jamaican” selling papers on the corner of Johnnie Dodds and Hwy 17 is a ONE Man paper slinging CREW…!!! If PoP Tart would spring for a Flower Shirt and some “Bling in the Dreds”; it would go a long way in doubling their CIRCULATION….!!!?
This paper is like “Jabba the HUT”…they just don’t understand the POWER of the FORCE…!!!
This paper could LEAD the State and ….NATION for that matter; but it is beyond belief as to WHAT they PUSH on the READERS…!!!!
I cast my vote for …”La Leche” (the Milk) !!

Other than their content being 80% advertisment and mostly 2 day old news, the P&C is great small town paper.
