Former “Republican” Arlen Specter, who last week was trailing Club for Growth founder Pat Toomey by double digits in GOP primary polls, is now singing the song of a front runner.
After his switch to the Democratic party last week, Specter now leads Toomey in a general election 53%-33%, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Specter would face a much tougher fight if he goes up against former Keystone State governor and ex-Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, though.
Quinnipiac has Specter up on Ridge by just three points.
Of course that would by one recycled politician against another …
Anyway, at least Arlen is admitting his crass political calculation.
“I was unwilling to subject my 29-year record in the U.S. Senate to the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate,” Specter said last week.
Duh.
