Common Sense In SC Government?
Since we’re frequently accused of taking a turn to “Negativetown,” we figured we’d stop for a moment today and say something nice about our state’s ass-backward, borderline retarded government.
Wait … did that comment just ruin our magnanimous gesture?
Oh well.
Rarely able to see more than an inch in front of its face, S.C. state government has actually (amazingly) provided us with an example of common sense aforethought.
Premeditated intelligence.
Thinking ahead, even.
Wait, what?
Believe it or not, we’re serious.
They’re called Antirrhinum, or “Snapdragons” to the lay person … and a bevy of these beauties is blooming in the Northeast corner of the S.C. State House grounds as we write this.
Why is this so significant?
Well, as anybody who’s every tended to “Snapdragons” will tell you, they require soil that drains well and full or partial sun …
Oh, and if you want to see blooms in May, you have to plant them in September.
That’s right … you’ve got to think ahead. Which means that at some point several months ago, one of our state’s alphabet soup bureaucracies actually got something right for a change.
Miracles never cease, do they?

I am glad you brought this to my attention.I suggest that none of the people of South Carolina should be deprived of having such nice flowers around their homes.Because of tough time many cant afford this basic need.I suggest we tax anyone that owns a home woth $100,000 at 1% of its value so that people forced to live in less expensive homes can feel they are not being discriminated against.

I would suggest try to refrain from calling something you find stupid “retarded.” You know why and it’s not about being p.c. It’s about having a little decency, not trying to be cool like a middle schooler and for once just doing the right thing. If people with special needs ask you not to use the word why not just do it for them. Yes, they are human beings with feelings. The word dehumanizes them. Isn’t that enough for you?

Mary, as a mother of a special needs child, I implore you to refrain from being retarded.
God Bless America!
