The Cult of Snuggie is poised to reach its comfortable tentacles into college athletics this fall, marketing their “blanket with sleeves” to football fans across the country.

So beware of imitators, people.

From CNBC:

If you go to the big sports schools like Michigan, North Carolina and Texas, you’ll be able to buy a Snuggie with your school’s logo on it this Fall. The price will be $19.95 and (the product) will be sold on television, in drug stores and, in some cases, campus stores, according to Crystal Sims, director in non-apparel marketing of the Collegiate Licensing Company, the IMG firm that represents nearly 200 schools on licensing endeavors.

Another company, Northwest, will be marketing a similar product known as “The Snuggler.”

Over 4 million of the Chinese-manufactured, synthetic fleece “Snuggies” have been sold in America over the past year. Another million “Slankets” have been sold.

That’s 5 million people who haven’t figured out how to put their bathrobes on backwards.

Jim Rome had an epic take on the Snuggie vs. ShamWow. The Sports Snuggies have ShamWow reeling. Slanket and Snuggler don’t even belong in the ring with this Sleeved Blanket Titan.

Snuggies are nothing more than a long robe turned around backwards. This is the gayest, goofiest thing I have ever seen. Yet, someone will make $millions on this. Incredible.
