Ruffled Feathers

The Gamecock Nation is pissed … and from the looks of it, they’re not taking this one lying down.

A popular radio voice has been silenced due to what appears to have been a personal vendetta, and fans are up in arms over it.

Our story yesterday delving into the controversial firing of longtime Gamecock radio announcer Mike Morgan has blown apart the official fiction concerning his departure – namely that he resigned to “pursue other professional opportunities.”

Right …

It’s now obvious that Morgan was not only fired, but that the decision to get rid of him was more personal than professional.

Specifically, there appears to have been some questionable judgment displayed on the part of both the University and the company that promotes its athletic programs related to this incident.

At the very least, there was a complete and total failure to fully investigate the grounds presented for his termination.

In fact, one local columnist is already calling for an internal investigation by USC President Harris Pastides.

The mainstream media? Well, other than the radio call-in shows, they’re as quiet as church mice.

Apparently they don’t want to alienate their “sources.”

Whatever.

Anyway, in addition to creating a new black eye for the University, the furor over Morgan’s firing has also recalled the involvement of several top University personalities in a pyramid scheme that was exposed two years ago by the Federal Trade Commission.

Among those personalities? Former Gamecock quarterback and current play-by-play announcer Todd Ellis, running back Rob DeBoer and top Gamecock sports marketer Liz McMillan.

yeah, the president of a state university should waste his time “investigating” the dismissal of an employee by a private company. It’s a only a friggin announcer and obviously he did something to piss his employer off. If he’s got a grevance (doubtful) take it to court as wrongful termination (he will lose).
