Grand Strand Fires Still Raging
Firefighters are continuing to battle a blaze in Horry County that has now consumed 100 homes and burned over 15,000 acres.
A thick haze has also blanketed the entire Grand Strand – casting an eery pall over this bustling tourist mecca.
Currently, the fire is spreading North, where it is being fought on the ground by firefighters and from above by S.C. National Guard helicopters armed with water drops.
There is still no indication as to what caused the blaze, but additional homes are threatened, S.C. Forestry officials say, including those along S.C. 90 and S.C. 22.
The fire remains concentrated on the Western side of the Intracoastal Waterway – which means it is unlikely to effect beachfront hotels and rental residences.
That’s obviously good news for the state’s tourism industry.
FITS has our reporters on the ground and we’ll be bringing you exclusive pics and first-hand accounts throughout the afternoon.

This is just unreal. You always think California or Midwest when you think large scale brush fire. This is devastating to the people of Horry. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
