Karen Floyd – the last candidate standing in the race to lead the South Carolina “Republican” Party – reportedly has an “Activist Army” that now “tops 600 in (an) effort to unite (the) GOP.”
We learned of this courtesy of a SC Hotline “press release” that (surprise) isn’t actually a press release, but rather a link to Floyd’s “technologically-savvy” website.
Impressive, we know.
Anyway, Floyd’s campaign is employing a PR technique known as the “bandwagon effect.” As in, “everybody’s doing it, so should you.”
We were actually going to take the time to count all of the names on her “Activist Army” page, too, but then we remembered that – as GOP officials continue to prove – it’s pretty easy to say you’re a Republican these days.
Plus, it’s a sunny Saturday.
So what’s the point?
Definitely these people are all “activists,” but are they really “Republicans?”
Remember, you can count the number of real S.C. Republicans (at least those whose names you recognize) on one hand.
Ready?
Mark Sanford. Jim DeMint. Nikki Haley. Tom Davis.
See? You didn’t even have to use your thumb.
Sure there are plenty of others out there – Phil Shoopman, Nathan Ballentine and Richard Eckstrom, to name a few – but let’s face it, the vast majority of the SCGOP isn’t “Republican” at all.
At least not when defined by the only “army” that matters, the taxpayers.
If these people were really “Republicans,” South Carolina would already have low taxes, a limited government and parental choice – all of which are in the GOP platform, and yet all of which are being blocked by “Republicans” in Columbia as we speak.
Floyd is clearly poised to lead the SCGOP, and plenty of folks are jumping on her “bandwagon” now that nobody else is running.
But is that a sign of momentum? Or resignation …
We’re just asking. We await your thoughts below …

Loved her since the days we attended Bill Clinton fundraisers together. You go girl!

So Sic thinks the SCGOP is really a bunch of RINO’s? Well then Karen Floyd is the PERFECT choice to run the party. What RINO wouldn’t love a former corporate attorney who gave her money to Bill Clinton and Fritz Hollings who only became a “Republican” to win a county council seat in 1998?

The GOP needs a person dedicated to serve the party, and the people.
What we are getting is a marketing gal, that can and will spin anything.
So much for moving forward …its seems we are stepping backwards.

If the people of SC focused more on a candidate’s IQ rather than how well they pandered to the right wing, the state might actually make some progress. Fat chance, though.
The GOP governor and GOP legislature have run the state into the ground, but that’s not “republican enough” for you.
Only in SC.

Chris Richardson,
Who the hell is Warren? Anyway, check you modern-day South Carolina political history and public records online. You will find that Karen Floyd donated money in the 1990′s to Bill Clinton, Inez Tenenbaum, Glenn Reese, Fritz Hollings, former Florida Senator Bob Graham, the DNC and the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee). She attended a South Carolina rally in 1992 for Bill Clinton along with Inez Tenenbaum and she attended a DSCC fundraiser in DC with Dick Harpootlian that had President Bill Clinton as the headliner. From what I am hearing there is an effort by a potential last minute challenger to Floyd to get this info out and to derail her campaign for state chair.
