It’s A Revolution!

Across America, taxpayer advocates by the hundreds of thousands peaceably petitioned the government for a redress of their grievances today, including thousands of “protesters” right here in South Carolina.

Carrying homemade signs, waving “Don’t Tread On Me” flags and chanting patriot slogans, hundreds of “Tax Day Tea Parties” overtook city centers across the country, vocally decrying the direction in which our nation is moving and sending a clear message that America’s “silent majority” can rally ’round a cause every bit as well as government bureaucrats.

For example, a huge crowd gathered on the steps of the S.C. State House in Columbia, S.C. this afternoon – its numbers dwarfing the government-sponsored rally that took place at the same location two weeks ago.

Gov. Mark Sanford, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint and others addressed the throng, which carried signs reading “taxation is oppression” and “stop wasteful spending now.”

Stay tuned for more on the “Tea Party” rallies throughout the day …

My protest was in completing my tax return in the exact same manner President Obama’s appointees filed theirs!!

OOOOPS

I can’t believe I made all those “mistakes”.

By Mab on April 15th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

JTFS — my dad always called his ‘oversights.’

My protests will only be heard if I am audited…

Can y’all BELIEVE — the DNC had the gall to call my house during Tea Party time? I pick up the phone, and there is this low voice — like a machine rendering of Lucifer himself — so I said again HELLLLLLLLOOOOO. Then this snarky little man tells me thanks for my contribution to the DNC for the Rush Limbaugh billboard campaign. I told him (this is all the truth, GIRL SCOUTS HONOR) that was a mistake and that I was multitasking and that I thought I was sending money to Rush Limbaugh to encourage him to keep nailing Obama to the wall…and that, well, I just want my money back. Or at least take me off ‘the list’ — he said he would.

He had better.

Seriously, if you want to impress me and you make less than $250K, send back the tax cut you just got under the stimulus bill. Put your money where your teabag is!

Repugnant Party astro-turf. Ho-hum, get over it, folks, y’all lost and should go away.

By Andy on April 15th, 2009 at 4:38 pm

I’m not totally on board with this Tea Party deal. I find the protests to be a little… unfocuse and kind of Glenn Beckish (conspiracy monger friendly.) Also, you totally lost me at when folks start dropping the national sales tax idea.

BUT, it is an impressive turnout with thousands more folks participating than the recent protests against Sanford that got so much burn in local media outlets.

well…its only a revolution if something comes out of this. If nothing gets done then it was a waste. True revolution makes things happen, it makes things change. The question is ..now what? What to do with the momentum? If politicians do nothing..and I am willing to put money on it that they wont..then what do the people do to escalate? So called G3 anarchists in England didn’t do anything despite all their big bad talk, I watched a slap chop infomercial instead.. Its not a revolution when government tells you when, how, where, and for how long your “allowed” to protest..its patronizing and stupid. The Columbia protest was a perfect example of this..two hours? Weak. It will take a movement much more massive than this..to walk on Washington and make real sacrifices for the movement to get the message across. Change is only made when there is a threat to the status quo, its just the way it is. No “revolution” in America or the world happened without some sort of viable threat to the status quo, whether it be through vote, massive walkout, march on D.C. or violence. There is no threat right now. My prediction is that Obama will do what he is gonna do for the next four years and then be voted out, but will it be too late by then? Columbia and S.C. isnt really known for political activism but the crowd was nice today. Lets hope something comes out of this.Go back to your lattes.

timmy – you’re post makes no sense. Care to try again or has the in-breeding decminated you’re ability to logic through such a simple concept.

Folks are protesting HIGH taxes – why would you think we would return a tax cut?

oh, and timmy, the stimulus tax cut is a pittance compared to the “oversights” on my return…

bwhaaaa haaaaa haaaaaa

Dj-
Obama’s gonna be in for a least 8 years -when you got a criminal organization like ACORN stumping for you, there’s literally no way you can lose!

By Tim on April 15th, 2009 at 7:31 pm

Footsy, what doesn’t make sense? They billed this teabagging as a protest against the stimulus. The stimulus gave most of those people out there today a tax cut. So if you’re protesting the stimulus, why aren’t you willing to give the money back?

“Taxes are oppression”?

By Malcolm on April 15th, 2009 at 9:33 pm

I paid down debt with my stimulus check, just like SC should.

By James the Foot Soldier on April 15th, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Timmy, there are two components to the stimulus:
A. Mo’ gov’ment spending – most not hitting the expenditure cycle until 2010 in the hopes the economy won’t remain in the shitter for all those Democratic seats in red districts in 2010.

B. Tax cuts. Nice hedge by President Obama here – knowing the guv’ment spending piece will be a net drag on the economy.

I’m pretty sure the protests are over the first component of the stimulus – let’s call a spade a spade – it’s generational theft.

I for one thought it was brilliant how candidate Obama outflanked Johnny Mac on the tax cut issue (not that getting to the right of Johhny Mac was ever that tough).

That he actually kept his promise (albeit a temporary tax cut) will stimulate my personal balance sheet.

ACORN, fewer convictions than our last president and vice president.

“Seymour” Still a ‘mo.

Tim: You’re on to something. GIVE IT BACK WINGNUTS. GIVE IT BACK.
