Dear Greenville, Boo “Bailout” Barrett
Dear Greenville (S.C.),
South Carolina gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Rep. Gresham “Bailout” Barrett is paying you a visit this Friday.
We know, we know, he’s from “down there” in the Land That Time Forgot (a.k.a. the Third Congressional District), but that’s not what makes his presence within your friendly confines so conspicuous.
For reasons defying comprehension, this taxpayer turncoat somehow got an invitation to speak at one of the hundreds of fiscal conservative “Tea Parties” taking place all across the nation this week.
Assuming he doesn’t get struck by lightning the moment he steps up to the podium, we’re asking you to do something for us.
Boo him.
That’s right, boo him.
Boo him loudly.
Boo him lustily.
Boo him for a long time.
In fact, boo his ass right out of the Bi-Lo building.
In other words, show him the same respect he showed your tax dollars and your free market system of government.
We’ve heard that some people are supposedly planning to “turn their backs on Barrett,” but that doesn’t cut it in our book.
This guy needs to be sent a much stronger message than that.
So go tie a couple on beforehand (the dark stuff is always good for full-throated boos) and boo, boo, boo! Like that lady in The Princess Bride, or a Gamecock fan during the second half of the last two football seasons.
Why?
First of all, Barrett deserves it.
Second of all, you’ll feel better – even if you’re not entirely sure why you’re booing.
Third (and most importantly), it’ll make for one hell of a YouTube clip, won’t it?
Seriously, you can forward it all over your office and tell your co-workers “that’s me booing.”
Pam will be duly impressed (which let’s face it – is what it’s all about), and after if you’re lucky you might even get Angela to meet you out in the warehouse.
It’s all about multi-tasking, people.
Obviously, there are those who feel Barrett should be allowed to speak – to have his say.
And those people are correct – just not at this gathering.
If Barrett wants to outline his views on taxpayer rights to the Anderson County “GOP” meeting, he should feel free (they love to hear about reckless government down there) … but the last time we checked, these “Tea Parties” were supposed to be for real fiscal conservatives, not fake plastic RINOs.
Here’s what it all boils down to – at a time in American history when a handful of House members needed to stand strong in defense of tyranny, Barrett bailed.
He took the government saccharine and flip-flopped.
The D.C. elite dangled “bailout sweetener” in front of him and Barrett said “pour some sugar on me.”
Like Def Leppard.
Seriously, the U.S. House of Representatives (with substantial Democratic support) had this commie crap licked in its infancy, but instead we got TARP, which led to GM, which led to ARRA, which led to a whole bunch of other initials that together total more than $13 trillion – that’s $13 trillion.
Barrett and his sixteen or so “flip-floppers” in the House could have stopped it.
They could have, but they bailed.
Which is why you should boo him – loudly, lustily and all that.
Right out of the building.
Sincerely,
FITS
P.S. – And in case any of you were wonder, “Boo Berry” was definitely not too esoteric a reference to make under the circumstances. In fact, it would make for a nice, soft projectile if you’re looking for good heckling eats …

Will, make sure you ask him about the medicare vote that he voted against that is now costing taxpayers somewhere to the tune of 3-5 TRILLION dollars. Get real you, Gresham’s one of the most conservative guys this state has ever seen.

Barrett’s vote on the “bailout” last fall was the responsible thing to do. Opposing the nonsense that has followed has also been the responsible thing to do. It is pretty widely understood by now that our financial system was on the verge of a complete meltdown in September. Congress did not have time to dilly around with crafting a perfect bill, or even a bill that didn’t suck in many ways. It had to craft a bill that would pass, and pass quickly.
Your pretensions to conservative purity are getting a bit tiresome.
By PalmettoCPA on April 15th, 2009 at 10:37 am
HD,
If the vote on the bailout was “the responsible thing to do” (an allegation that myself any many other fiscal conservatives disagree with), then Rep Barrett should have voted in favor of the original bill. Instead, he voted down the original bill (when the bill supposedly had to “pass quickly”) and only voted for it once it was laden down with enough pork to keep his friends swimming in BBQ for the next few years.
Fiscal conservative? Heck no.
By bonehead on April 15th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Actually, you have the Anderson GOP confused with the majority of our State delegation.
Our county party is very conservative and hates the fact that Barrett got snowed into voting for that bill. It was the first one, not the second one.
I believe he is a fiscal conservative. He just had a brain fart. We all have them. He would be better than Henry Mac anyday of the week and twice on Sunday. And he would certainly be better than Andre.
Look at his record, it is 99% the way conservatives would have voted. He made a mistake, it happens. You must be in the tank for Henry Mac. Yeah, he’s the one that just about bankrupted the state party, had us in debt up to our ears, and almost had us fined over a $million. Loses a slam dunk kidnapping case. What a joke of a lawyer and a man.
Barrett for Governor sounds pretty good to me!
By G.L. on April 15th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Barrett made a mistake, but I’m not going to let this one bad vote outweight all the good ones he’s made over the years. Also, he is still the most conservative candidate of the three that have announced.
By GK on April 15th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Let’s not forget here that one bad vote dosen’t make a person and he’s the 3rd most conservative person in congress.

I have already done a video about this outrage of him speaking. I plan on booing. The young republicans are doing us a favor by exposing the phony left right paradigm by having this TARP supporter speak at a freaking tea party. Par for the course in the paradigm. They are exposing how phony the 2 party system is and that the elite truly control both parties. Ill be handing out Obama Deception DVD’s if anyone needs one.

Gresham Barret is a communist! Throw him out!
