Test Passed?

It’s been barely 24 hours and the mainstream media is already fawning over the rescue of a captured American sea captain by President Barack Obama … err, by U.S. Navy Seals.

But since it was “The One” who gave the “go” order, the credit is not surprisingly piling up at 1600 Pennsylvania.

The Associated Press, in fact, has practically awarded the President the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism.

… President Barack Obama’s “no drama” handling of the Indian Ocean hostage crisis proved a big win for his administration in its first critical national security test.

Obama’s quiet backstage decision to authorize the Defense Department to take necessary action if Capt. Richard Phillips’ life was in imminent danger gave a Navy commander the go-ahead to order snipers to fire on the pirates holding the cargo ship captain at gunpoint.

For Obama, the benefits were instantly clear: an American life saved and a major victory notched against an increasingly worrisome scourge of the seas off the Horn of Africa.

Good God. We didn’t know the AP swallowed like that.

Look, the only reason the Navy was in a position to pull off this rescue (five days after the fact) was the heroism of the hijacked ship’s crew.

Faced with an imminent threat on their lives and their cargo, they took immediate and decisive action, whereas the Navy sat on its ass for nearly a week, presumably waiting for the President to grow a pair.

When he finally did, it was three simultaneous sniper shots … boom, boom, boom. Which makes you wonder what took so long.

Hell, a few days prior to the “rescue” this guy jumped out of the boat and was on his way to safety and the Navy didn’t act – which we’re guessing it’s kinda hard to do absent a “go” order.

Here’s what the first mate of the Maersk Alabama had to say, courtesy of the LA Times:

“We would like to implore President Obama to use all his resources and increase his commitment to end this Somali pirate scourge,” he said, reading from a prepared statement. “Right now there are still ships being taken, right now as we are standing here. America has got to be at the forefront of this. It’s time for us to step up and put an end to this crisis.

“It is a crisis. Wake up!” he said. “This crew was lucky to be out of this with every one of us alive. We won’t be that lucky again.”

True that.

And while Obama the hero is certainly talking tough against the pirates (i.e. “we’re going to continue to work with our partners”), the proof of his “heroism” will be in the pudding.

Meanwhile, the only people who could possibly view this as a victory for the president are all the sissy D.C. reporters hopelessly under his spell. Oh, and all the sissy liberals hanging on their every fawning word.

It’s a victory for America, alright … the part of America that doesn’t rely on a government “go” order.

The rest of y’all just get back to schlobbing Obama’s knob, mmmm-k?

Stay classy, fits.

Sorry the situation didn’t turn out worse.

Pat,

You got us! We really, really, really wanted people to die in this situation!

How did you know!

Hard to read that sour accounting above and not think you guys are a little bitter about the situation. But then again, you’re pretty bitter about everything these days. Don’t blame you, being the Whig Party of the 21st century has to suck.

PS: The overuse of exclamation points at fits is tiresome. What’s next?!!!? Emoticons?!!!?

Pat,

There you go. That was better. Funny, derisive – and you didn’t imply we wanted Americans to die.

Thanks,

I usually agree with most everything you write, but this column is pretty weak.

And what did the Maersk office in Charleston have to say? Peace out, bitches. Thanks to Mark Sanford, they’re leaving.

Reading this was like three simultaneous sniper shots … boom, boom, boom.

Good post, Fits. This whole 5 day spectacle was pitiful. The picture of a USN destroyer pulling a life boat with armed teenagers holding an American hostage was almost surreal. Obama’s foot-dragging nearly cost the captain his life. This episode should have ended within five minutes of the US Navy’s arrival. The excessive delay in decisive action reveals Obama’s innate inability to make critical decisions in a timely matter.

O yea, that U.S. military that saved Capt. Phillips is being gutted by Obama. He’s so proud of the our armed forces that he’s elimating funding of critical force mulitipliers like the F22 Raptor. Our air force long range bomber development has also been shelved. Can you believe that our air force is flying B-52’s that are nearly 60 years old?

But you can sleep peacefully tonight, as at least ACORN received her millions. Digital plasma screen tv’s for all welfare queens!

Obama didnt give the order for the takedown. The military has the authority to act in a situation like this. They dont need to call the Prez for orders…how the fuck do you think things get done in Iraq and Afganistan? You think they call the White House every time there is danger? More fawning koolaid from generic U.S. media. Whats more troubling is the fact that the White House is not denying it.We truly live in a idiocracy.

I’m willing to believe that the posters of the variety of vile from the previous entries on this topic are, in fact, happy that no Americans died in this situation, but I’m pretty sure even a flesh wound to the captain would have proved someone’s obscure point about Obama’s quest to destroy America. Can any of you, though, tell me that you would have held forth the same judgment on a president McCain if the exact same events had transpired? Of course not. It’s not about truth or honest analysis, it’s about gathering evidence to support a preconceived notion. Ask yourself if there’s a conceivable situation where you would support president Obama? If he funded the Raptor? If he gave massive tax breaks to the obscenely rich? Embraced the entire GOP platform? I’m thinking no.

Fits,

When the amphetamines begin to wear off, stop writing.

Much like your mother, hindsight’s always easy.

I agree we can’t give Obama all the credit. But giving him no credit is also a stretch. He is the commander-in-chief. Had the operation failed (and thank the lord it did not), would you have criticized the Seals? Probably not. So we have to be fair here.

So like in the mafia, 20% goes to the head of the family when a job is done right. In this grossly inappropriate but illustrative analogy, the Seals are the hit men.
