Gov. Mark Sanford’s office is investigating multiple allegations of fraud, waste and mismanagement at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), sources at the school and inside the governor’s office have told FITS.

Joel Sawyer – the governor’s spokesman – could not be reached for comment concerning the reports, but multiple MUSC staffers have confirmed that the Governor’s Office has been provided with dozens of documents highlighting questionable dealings by top MUSC officials.

Sanford’s team has also “requested additional information,” one of the investigators told FITS.

Although the nature of the information exchanged is unknown, friction between MUSC and Sanford’s office is nothing new.

Long before a bally-hoed battle erupted over a portion of one-time federal “stimulus” money, MUSC President Ray Greenberg and Gov. Sanford were already arguing publicly over higher ed budget numbers.

An MUSC advisor who spoke with FITS on condition of anonymity called Sanford’s investigation “a retaliatory witch hunt,” and added that “disgruntled employees are leaking documents containing misleading allegations.”

Stay tuned … this could get interesting.

I can name several examples of wasteful spending and mismanagement of funds over the past few years:
1. MUSC Excellence Campaign – (millions)brought in Studer Group to give us books and talks about customer service. It was common sense and many of us already used it daily. Those that did not were impossible to fire.

2. Minority Scholarships (2-4 million) – for blacks to attend MUSC with full scholarships. Money extracted from both University, Departments, and UMA.

3. New Administrators – (who knows) – this place hires new 6-figure administrators like they are going out of style! We have people to do websites, podcasts, name badges, ect. Why so many? We pay the president 700k per year! Why can’t he shoulder the budget?

4. New Buildings – we build because we can and not because we can afford them. We still do not know the status of 2 more buildings they are considering putting up despite the serious economy.

5. New Programs – For instance, we have a recycling and sustainability program at MUSC. How much does that bring in? Nothing against recycling. Just can’t afford s staff of 5 to tell us how to do it!

6. Expensive Lawsuits and Arrogant Defendants – Jack Feussner (Chair of Medicine) is so outragious in the courtroom, he can cost MUSC millions in a few minutes of his arrogant responses.

7. Crazy reliance on the Obama Simulus Package – I just wish you could seen the number of emails we get daily about this one. You would think Obama is swooping in to save the University!

8. Unnecessary trips by El Presidente – to Israel? With family? For Bar-mitz? What did it generate in revenue for MUSC?

9. New administration office and acquisition of the Bee Street Property for Legal Counsel. – I guess they need them close at times like this!

I know that I’ll be keeping a close eye on FITSNews over the next several weeks. MUSC-ers need to know what’s going down behind closed doors.

Provost Raymond, is that you?

Oh heck. Why don’t we schedule a good old-fashioned protest! We could all assemble on the Horseshoe, sign a petition to the morally blind and corrupt legislature — as we propose, no, demand trimming upper executive and officer pay;then shout in unison the various crimes and violations against taxpayers, benefactors’ directives, employees, students, and desperate patients.A jail or wrongful termination docket could’t possibly accommodate us all.

Interesting?

Like the Midlands elected official sic(k) willie once claimed had a Strom problem?

Like sic(k) willie digging for gold over the grave of a “poor little black girl.”

Like sic(k) willie’s brazillions of other bogus claims and wacko allegations with empty promises of more details from the dust bunnies under his bed?

sic(k) one, we still wait for you to deliver on your promise of facts and details about the Midlands elected official you claim has a Strom problem.

Or, are you ready to retract that wacko claim and admit you are just a pimp?

“James Betram,” it is a shame that, despite a list of known problems at musc, you succeeded in erasing your credibility with your allegation targeting MUSC’s success and efforts to recruit black minority students. All I can assume is that you are not from state, because most of us from “down here” embrace the desires and success of our American-bred brothers and sisters. I know that these candidates are every bit talented and gifted as many of the foreign candidated; and while we embrace all of our students ang gifted prospects, we know that our minority American students are imperative.to filling a vast need to provide healthcare in a troubled demographic. You are a pig with not enough to do for youe inflated state salary.

Another little annoyance sucessfully removed from the front burner and turned over to the fruits and nuts.

yet another nice piece of work by Ray’s plumbers

James Betram – I agree with you completely. And if the governor is going to investigate let’s start with Ray’s girlfriend. If you figure her salary on a 40 hour week she is making more than Ray Greenberg’s 700K. She was hired illegally – skipping state hiring proceedures, in spite of the supposed economic cutbacks Ray has given her her own building, had it re-furbished and allowed this part time employee to hire a full time assistant. Now I see she is advertising for a second full time employee. Not bad for a four hour a week employee who also operates her own private competitive business using MUSC doctors. Let the governor or board start with this one – I know the board won’t. The gutless – over the hill – rubber stampers for Ray’s desires.
