Barrett’s In The Million Dollar Club, Too

A second S.C. GOP gubernatorial candidate has crossed the million-dollar mark.

Since announcing his candidacy for governor three weeks ago, U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett’s campaign has taken in $371,000, according to a press release from his campaign.

Not bad.

Combined with Barrett’s previous Congressional cash-on-hand – which was over $700,000 – he’s easily topped the million dollar mark, like Tweedle Dumb did earlier this week.

From Barrett’s spin room:

“Gresham raised this money the old fashioned way,” said Campaign Treasurer Travis Butler. “He didn’t rely on high profile fundraising events with Senators or Governors to attract donors. He just got on the phone, one-on-one and shared his vision for economic growth, education and energy in the State of South Carolina. And when people hear his vision for the state they are energized and want to join the team.”

Uhh … okay. The thought of a Barrett phone call “energizing” people is pretty funny, but we get that this is Butler’s job.

But wait, there’s more spinnage …

Barrett for Governor Senior Advisor Jim Dyke added, “The fact that Gresham was able to go out in what everyone would agree is a challenging fundraising environment and raise, in three weeks, what most candidates would hope to raise in three months is a sign that he is right on the issues. In the weeks ahead, our campaign will continue to build on this early momentum by adding more and more South Carolinians to the campaign through our finance committee, county leadership, coalition groups and a new website.”

Mmmm-hmmm.

One word, guys … “bailout.”

Wait, is that two words?

Okay … bail (and) out.

Bail out.

In other words, you’re gonna need all that money to explain some stuff, Gresh.

Don’t forget that his constituents needs to be informed as to who he is. No, I mean what his name is.

When a local newspaper in your own district can’t get your name right … well … you have a problem. Get ready to spend that million on telling folks you are “Gresham” and not “Garrett.”

Maybe a Howard Dean Scream will put him on the map and make him stand out a tad more . . . LOL.

can’t wait to see how many TARP recipients PACs and employees gave to Bailout Barrett. If raising money by serving on powerful cmtes who give out billion in bailout $$ is the old fashioned way then I must have missed something

It’s as easy for a sitting member of Congress to raise $$ as it is for Wes Donahue to get jacked about venti’s and stuff

Will:

I’ll stack my conservative bona fides against anyone’s and I am here to tell you that your obsession with Barrett’s vote on the initial “bailout” is foolish. Context is everything. Pretty much every non-wingnut will tell you that we were days away from a serious economic/financial meltdown. Days, not weeks or months. Inarguably, that bill was deeply flawed. More importantly, it bought some time. If Barrett had supported the nonsense that has followed, I’d be as disappointed in him as you – but he hasn’t. If you’ll do a little digging, I think you’ll find that killing that first bill would have been disastrous.

Look for Fidelity contributions in very large amounts. Meanwhile, look up Fidelity, it’s parent company and ALL OF THE BUSINESSES they own. Many of them appear to be the ones ” going out of business”.

And how does working in a Furniture Store prepare one to become the highest ranking political man in the state?

Answers anyone?????
