Adventure On The High Seas
While the White House and U.S. Navy “closely monitored” the situation, American crew members of the Danish-owned Maersk Alabama used anti-piracy training to regain control of their vessel, although Somali pirates did manage to make off with the ship’s captain.
Still, as was the case with the response to Hurricane Katrina, the private sector took decisive action while government sat around with a not so bright look on its face.
Meanwhile in Hollywood, screenwriters swooned at the high seas drama, which is continuing to play out today as the U.S. Navy finally showed up to help negotiate the release of the captain.
The Navy is “in command of the situation,” a Maersk spokesman told reporters. “We are coordinating with the Navy and all the governmental organizations involved in this crisis.”
Like the FBI, for example, which is sending its “hostage negotiators” in.
Sheesh. If the U.S. military was really in “command of (this) situation,” we’d still have twenty hostages, not one. Not to mention a captive ship.
The crew of the Maersk Alabama obviously didn’t have time for all that.
And so this group of highly-motivated, pissed-off people said “screw this” and rose up, pure and simple.
Refusing to back down and wait for the Navy or a million-dollar ransom to gain their freedom (and the release of the ship’s humanitarian cargo) this crew decided to band together and beat these thugs down.
They didn’t sit back and negotiate, or let diplomacy take its course, or wait for these terrorists to get another infusion of ransom cash from a cowing international community, they said said “let’s roll” and took care of their business.
Like the passengers on United 93 – who also didn’t wait for an Act of Congress when they stormed the terrorists in the cockpit and prevented that airliner from crashing into the U.S. Capitol on 9/11 – these brave Americans proved once again that there’s nothing wrong with our country, just our inept leaders.
And yes, it feels damn good to finally throw that “brave Americans” cliche out there. It’s been too long since we’ve done that.
Seriously, do you think President Barack “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” Hussein would have given the green light to something like this?
Never. Not in a million years.
After all, that would be fighting a “War on Terror,” and we’re not doing that anymore.
But beyond international politics, this is about getting stuff done – something the federal government forgot how to do a long time ago.
It’s like Dark Helmet said in Spaceballs.
“Why are we always preparing to go? Just go …”
Damn right.

A SEAL Team is likely under the raft. They just need the order.

Don’t worry, Obama will issue a very, very stern letter of protest, (perhaps even rebuke) to those rascally Christian–I mean Relgion of Peace–pirates.

Oops! Apparently Obama has voted “present” on the Somali hostage crisis and instead today wants to talk about “housing.” I suppose his teleprompter needs reprogramming…

Obama’s handling of the “hostage crisis” is disgraceful! The whole world watched at the G-20 as Obama blamed America for everything and then bowed obsequiously to Saudi’s King Abdullah.
President Wimp is projecting weakness. His response to this crisis has been completely humiliating and will certainly expose our nation to more terrorist attacks. His effete non-response will only embolden aspiring Muslim terrorists.
It seems that Obama is siding with the Muslim hijackers.
Oops! I don’t mean to stereotype, I’m sure the pirates are probably just Associate Reformed Presbyterians or just those naughty Mormons…

You guys realize this isn’t a new thing, right? According to the infallible minds behind the wikis of the world, there were over 100 attacks by Somali pirates last year alone almost half of which ended in hostage situations. Also, just because it was an american crew doesn’t mean it was an American vessel and the Dutch may have had some say in the events or lack therof by the navy. And I’m not being overly defensive but give it up with this “abandoning the war on terror crap.” the war on terror has resulted in a world with more terrorists and fewer americans.

Jed, I completely disagree with your assessment that “the war on terror has resulted in a world with more terrorists and fewer Americans.”
Team Clinton responded to the first World Trade Center Bombing with a “law enforcement” approach. That effete approach emboldened aspiring Islamic terrorists who then successfully murdered over 3,000 plus Americans on 9/11.
Jed, have we had another terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11?
Jed, buddy, you can’t apply Western reason with religious fanatics.
Fact is, Jed, that a flagged U.S. ship hasn’t been hijacked in over 200 years.
While limp-wristed Team Obama is furiously seeking international “permission” to secure the “negotiated release” of an American hijack victim, the rest of the world rolls their eyes and laughs at Team Obama’s utter incompetence.
Then again, Obama aspires to be President of the World, and the US is in his mind, needs to be “cut down to size.”

Yea, Jed, this whole piracy is all George Bush’s fault!
At least our new leader is smart enough to know that the evil, white European, capitalist captain is getting his just deserves.
After all, the pirates are just simple, Allah-fearing Muslims oppressed by evil capitalist, American greed…
Had Bush been president, these hi-jackers would never have considered hi-jacking an American-flagged vessel. If they had, then they would have been shark bait two days ago.
For some reason, Team Obama has decided to humiliate America by not allowing our Navy Seals to “take out” the hi-jackers. I pray for the poor captain because his president doesn’t seem to care about his fate.
It’s absolutely disgraceful that our superpower status is being challenged by a buch of Somalis in wooden boats. Obama is jeopardizing our national security with his non-reponse to this crisis.
Iran, Syria, North Korea, Russia, China, Hamas and Hezbollah are watching Team Obama’s incompetence with giddiness and are no doubt accellerating their anti-American agendas.

Wow, I’m convinced… Let’s all sacrifice a goat at the altar of the great an powerful W! I guess I got here late and y’all didn’t leave me any koolaid.
Seriously, are you reading what you write? I can assure you that W was not superman and Obama is not Lex Luther, but if you sleep better with your GOP jammies on and your Rush teddy bear by your side then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Jed, I mean Pat,
We’ve got assets deployed in a position to save this captain. Obama doesn’t wish to save this man. The American captain has already tried to escape once and was re-captured. Poor guy. He’s already figured out that Obama doesn’t care about him and won’t rescue him. His plight is a foreshadowing of things to come. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Don’t expect Obama to protect us from hi-jackers or terrorists. The world is watching Obama’s response and taking notes. He is projecting weakness and indecision. No wonder the pirates aren’t “afraid of the U.S.”

Methinks it is no accident that in over 200 years a pirate hasn’t hi-jacked an American-flagged ship…Welcome to the Age of Obama!…
Maybe we should offer the hijackers immediate American citizenship and put them on ACORN’s payroll! I’m sure that would delight Jed and Barry O!
