There were definitely no flowers involved, but the man known in S.C. political circles as “Mr. Potato Head” is finally out.
Or rather “mashed.”
An era of ineptness and petty political infighting came to an abrupt end last night as former Spartanburg County GOP Chairman Rick Beltram – who bears a striking resemblance to the famous Mr. Potato Head toy – was booted from his longtime post by a 3-to-1 vote of local party activists.
LaDonna Ryggs, an administrative assistant at Bob Jones University, was elected to fill the position.
Having lost his county chairmanship, Beltram abruptly withdrew from the SCGOP Chairman’s race, meaning that Spartanburg businesswoman Karen Floyd is the only candidate currently seeking that position.
Columbia attorney Kevin Hall withdrew from the race last week due to health reasons.
Two other prospective candidates – veteran “Republican” consultant Warren Tompkins and our own very “non-Republican” founding editor, Sic Willie – have toyed with running for the post.
In a controversial move earlier this week, Sic pledged to boot several former Democratic State Senators from the party if he was elected, and promised to put all Republicans in the Palmetto State on a one-year “watch list” to determine if they were acting in accordance with the party’s platform.
“If the GOP banner is good enough to campaign under, it should be good enough to govern under,” Sic says. “Sadly, that hasn’t been the case in Washington or Columbia for some time now.”
So … is Sic’s campaign for real?
Honestly?
We have no clue.
He obviously owns the company that operates this news outlet but for whatever reason he keeps referring all of our questions to his “campaign website.”
What do y’alls think?
To the poll …
If The Election for SCGOP Chairman Was Held Today, Who Would You Vote For?
- Sic Willie (48%, 78 Votes)
- Karen Floyd (30%, 49 Votes)
- Warren Tompkins (22%, 34 Votes)
Total Voters: 161

Has somebody been wearing their ‘tater stomper boots’ ?

My vote is for Sic Willy–Karen Floyd is a “manufactured conservative” who was essentially a corporate Democrat attorney until she became a Republican to get elected to county council in 1998. Just ask her buddies Dick Harpootlian and Inez Tenenbaum.

She will make an outstanding chairmen for our party.

HarPoutlian is a master of manufactured personalities — worthy of a book, I am here to tell you.

Yes he thinks… And is thinking you may have voted for your fav person? :) Any who… The real question should be as noted, who will Weswee, Bald Sullivan and RINO Master Puppeteer Tompkins field next? Whoever they will lose in 90 percentile and we will give a hundred dollar gift to Ruth’s CAE for the winner if we are wrong!

While I cast my vote for Sic I would much rather see Kelly Payne and her Dutch Fork Class chairing SCGOP.

Speaking of personalities, here is the best one I have ever heard when requesting a donation for a going-away-gift at the office:
“[reaches into wallet]…what are you going to get her? A new personality?”
That’s going into the book!
