This Is Pretty Cool
We’re typically unimpressed by stuff we get forwarded from social conservatives.
First of all, you always have to scroll down 3.5 miles into the email because social conservatives don’t understand “forwarding etiquette.”
Seriously, people. It’s not that hard – you just delete everything except the original message.
Trust us, people will thank you.
Anyway, we were forwarded pictures over the weekend of the USS New York, which is one of the U.S. Navy’s new amphibious transport ships (but not the one that ran into a Navy submarine off the coast of Iran last month).
The ship is made – in part, at least – by steel that was taken from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in New York following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Pretty cool, huh?
It even has a “Never Forget” logo with the WTC’s twin towers included in it … you know, since 9/11 is in imminent danger of being forgotten.
What is in imminent danger of being forgotten?

That was lost during Clintons administration. While our Navy is still the pre-eminent force now, each day they get weaker due to political correctness. Smaller ships, fewer defensive combat systems, fewer crew members, less budgetary support…..etc.

Well, the US Navy may be getting smaller, but the equipment that they are using is getting more sophisticated. We don’t need two or three battleships, an aircraft carrier, 10 cruisers and 20 destoryers in a battle group any more. That’s what we needed back in WWII because we were fighting on a much larger scale, the Pacific Ocean. Those kind of number just couldn’t fit in the areas they are trying to access. The Strait of Hormuz (where that LPD & SSN collided) is technically a hostile area. I know from my days in the Navy, that when we went through that area, we did it only at night and we kept as much lighting in the ship off so we wouldn’t attract attention.
With all that being said, the amount of fire-power that we carry on the ships these days. We only need to take one aircraft carrier (a CVN), one guided missle cruiser (a CG), one or two guided missle destroyers (DDGs), and a fast attack submarine (SSN). And with the economy the way it is, I really doubt that we could support a 600 ship Navy. Now the dream is a 1,000 ship International Navy. The world is getting bigger and more complex, we can’t be the only police force out there. Someone does have to help.
