Start To Finish?
Way back in October of last year, the University of North Carolina became the first-ever unanimous preseason No. 1 in the 28-year history of the Associated Press poll.
It was a momentous occasion, one which we commemorated here at FITS with a picture of some cute UNC cheerleaders.
Tonight, the Tarheels look to finish the season where they started – on top.
To do that, they’ll have to beat Michigan State – a team with recent championship experience that will be playing in front of a friendly home crowd at Detroit’s Ford Field.
Can the ‘Heels do it?
In a word, “yes.”
North Carolina is hands-down the most talented college basketball team in the country this year – and one of the most talented ever.
They’re like watching UNLV, circa 1990.
With last year’s national player-of-the-year Tyler Hansbrough and this year’s ACC MVP Ty Lawton leading the way, UNC has methodically worked its way through this year’s NCAA tournament, and is looking for a reprise of a 98-63 thrashing they put on the Spartans at Ford Field just four months ago.
Of course, that humiliating loss hasn’t been forgotten by Michigan State – which is a seven-point underdog heading into tonight’s game.
Who won’t be competing for the championship tonight?
Yeah, Xavier.
