Democrat Moves Toward 2010 Bid
Charleston tort attorney Mullins McLeod – whose baby niece is cute as a button – is poised to launch his bid for the 2010 Democratic gubernatorial nomination, sources tell FITS.
McLeod’s name has been mentioned previously as a prospective candidate, but FITS has learned that the 37-year-old Walterboro, S.C. native has hired a staff and is actively recruiting supporters.
Additionally, the domain name McLeodForGovernor.com has been reserved by William Meehan – which is significant in that Meehan works for Lachlan McIntosh, one of the up-and-coming young Democratic consultants in South Carolina.
Should McLed declare his intentions to run, and it seems increasingly likely that he will, he would follow State Senators Robert Ford and Vincent Sheheen as announced Democratic candidates.

Sounds like someone who should have our consideration.

Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look;
He thinks too much: such men are dangerous.
By brogan gubmant on April 6th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Republicans should pray he doesn’t get in this race. He could be extremely dangerous for them. He’s got my vote if he gets in.
By Tom on April 6th, 2009 at 10:41 am
I’ve tried cases against this guy. If he speaks to voters like he does juries, we’re in for an interesting campaign. He’s good. Doubt he’d get into this thing unless he knew he could win.
By utah on April 6th, 2009 at 10:41 am
I think that is Mullins’ niece.
By GreenvilleDoctor19224 on April 6th, 2009 at 10:49 am
After reading his bio, he’s obviously a very bright guy with a very bright future. I’d like to know more about him. Never voted for a Democrat, but after our current Governor, I’m looking for a moderate Dem who can bring us out of the gutter. Not sure about Sheheen. I’d most likely support McLeod if he got in the race.
By HR Pufnstuf on April 6th, 2009 at 10:49 am
He’s got my full support. With connections all over SC, he’ll be tough to beat. Plus, outsider from Charleston always works.
By Simpson on April 6th, 2009 at 11:13 am
A young family man who knows that the state education and law enforcement could use 700 million dollars? Sounds like a guy we all should vote for.
By John on April 6th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Wow looks like the Mullins McLeod fluffers are out in full force.
Seems like your typical trial lawyer from a political family but that no one knows outside of Charleston. Yeah that will go over well in this state.
By Just a thought on April 6th, 2009 at 11:55 am
mullins is an awesome guy…whether democrat or republican. he is a solid fellow with great family values. both sides of the aisle will find more to like than dislike about the guy.
By the DON on April 6th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Mullins McLeod could turn this race on it’s head. Look out.
By reddrum on April 6th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
No doubt Mullins is an “awesome guy” and “great lawyer.” But “family man” with “great family values.” Perhaps you should check the facts … or ask his ex-wife (or Jeff Gordon).
By Not A Dem But... on April 6th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Why him over a solid / electable candidate like Sheheen?
Not bashing the guy (I know nothing about him), I just don’t see why you’d bring a newcomer to tangle with a well funded / well known Republican…
This is why Dems will continue to struggle in SC.
By Cheech on April 6th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
A lawyer from Charleston? Guessing he is going to go over as well as Joe Riley did when he ran statewide.
By John on April 6th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Whoa…is/was McLeod really married to Jeff Gordon’s ex-wife Brooke or is that just an internet rumor?
By Bob Beardon on April 6th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Ok, I read his bio, and I don’t see anything that is out of the ordinary that would make him a better candidate than Sheheen. Do his pretty face and his wealth make him that appealing? Please, give me more substance!
Also, would he be a client of Fits?
By CharlestonGuy on April 6th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
The reason Mullins McLeod is more appealing than Sheheen is because he’s not a product of the ’system’. He knows that the state is struggling right now and he, unlike Sheheen, isn’t part of the reason we’re in the hole we’re in. McLeod could give an outsider’s perspective on how to bring real solutions to state government. And who cares if he dated Jeff Gordon’s ex-wife? He’s a good looking guy, and good looking guys tend to date good looking women. Let’s look at his vision for South Carolina and make a thoughtful decision. But my money is on Mullins.

I doubt spending your career as a trial lawyer would help you bring an “outsider’s perspective” on bringing “real solutions” to government. But it’s nice to see Mullins has so many fans on FITS News considering most people have neer heard of him.

If Mullins is the best SC has to offer then I am moving!
By BIN News Editorial Staff on April 6th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Wow. Look at the bogus posts about pretty boy. We all know he is way too pretty to be elected. Voters are looking for the mean and hungry look when they vote.
By Not A Dem But... on April 6th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
CharlestonGuy,
You gotta get elected to make it happen. I can tell you this guy, friend of yours / quality human being as he may be, ain’t it.
By reddrum on April 6th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
but he dated Jeff Gordon’s wife (and others) while he was married with a toddler… kinda seems relevant to the “family values” issue some of the “fluffers” out there were promoting…
By reddrum on April 6th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
and, tell me again, what experience (other than successfully suing companies) does Mullins bring to the table?
By For real on April 7th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Rick,
You do realize that a trial lawyer actually has to employ people, meet a payroll, pay rent, pay taxes, get insurance, etc etc….we usually qualify that as small business…which is maybe what we need…someone who has to run a business…where others depend on him/her. Sanford, Hodges, and Beasley didn’t have that. Sanford and Beasley were silver spooned and Hodges, while a nice guy, was a corporate attorney at Springs, so not sure the employees depended on him. So far you have Bauer (small businessman), Barrett (small businessman), McMaster (small businessman), Sheheen (small businessman) and Ford (???). I like how this shapes up. Not since Carroll Campbell has a small buisnessman run this state. So Rick, I feel pretty good about the slate so far, and if you knew anything about politics, you would’ve heard of the McCleod’s, but by your post it appears you don’t…..imagine that.

another ambulance chaser? come on… SC is better than that….

The “cute as a button” niece is not Mullins’ niece, it’s his daughter, Lydia.
By Cheraw Citizen on September 9th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Sheehen has my vote. If for no other reason than FITS can’t seem to find anything on him, regardless of trying. And if FITS can’t find it, I guess no one can.
Furthermore, there’s an excellent video interview of him up at The Logic Connection.
I’ve dealt with his office on a veteran’s issue and they were extremely helpful and professional.
It would seem the Repubs can forget about winning this race or any other for awhile. While I am an Independent voter, I will be voting Democratic this race. Anything to get rid of the status quo Repubs in our present system.
