One of the great things about owning your own news service is that the exploits of your fantasy baseball league receive a level of attention that they might not otherwise get.

In other words, they receive attention.

So it is with the Great Santini League, of which our founding editor, Sic Willie, some of America’s most brilliant legal minds, and two State Senators are members.

As we’ve noted previously, it’s probably the only thing Sic takes seriously in the whole world.

Anyway, today is “Draft Day” in the Great Santini and Sic’s team – the FITS Fartknockers – have the second overall pick.

Who will Sic pick?

Well, with Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes firmly ensconsed at the top of most fantasy players’ draft sheets, for the first time ever the Fartknockers will be able to land one of baseball’s top speedsters.

“Speed has always been a weakness for us,” Sic Willie told ESPN’s Erin Andrews, who exclusively covers the Great Santini League for the network. “We’d love to start our draft off with either Hanley or Jose.”

Two years ago, the Fartknockers came within a hair of capturing their first-ever Santini crown. Last year, poor managerial decisions – including the infamous Eric Byrnes trade – kept them out of the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

Sic says the Byrnes trade shows how important it is for fantasy owners to pick up speedsters in the draft rather than try to trade for them later in the season.

“I think It’s important for fantasy owners to pick up speedsters in the draft rather than try to trade for them later in the season,” Sic said. “Wait … did you already say that?”

We’ll bring you the Fartknockers complete roster later today …

Sic:

Noticed you haven’t followed through on your promise to post your roster. Or is it under today’s post: Painful To Watch ?
