There’s a new M.O. in the President’s Office at the Medical University of South Carolina these days, and it has nothing to do with cutesie TV shows, budget complaints or fancy new hospitals.
No, the word from the top these days is simple: No more leaks.
Specifically, we’re hearing that the school’s top brass are utterly flabbergasted that FITS managed to get its hands on a three-year-old confidential memo detailing a wide range of embarrassing accusations within MUSC’s pathology department.
It’s the second time in recent months, in fact, that supposedly secret documents from MUSC’s campus ended up in our grubby little paws.
How do we do it?
It’s simple, really. For all the mainstream media’s talk of standards and principles (oh, and that whole not working in bathrobes thing), we have something with our sources that a lot of them don’t – trust.
Our sources know that they can count on us to protect the information they provide and not take advantage of them … which is something even our most reluctant informants (many of whom hate our guts) will attest to.
And then there’s the simple, unavoidable reality that many of these agencies are inviting the “leaks.”
For example, MUSC’s decision last year to furlough its employees opened the floodgates of incriminating “leaks” … a process that is now repeating itself up the road at Clemson.
Like Thom Yorke said, “you do it to yourself …”

The President’s plumber appears to have done a pretty good job sealing up the leaks.

Yeah but we are constantly in search of plumber crack.

How’s that Excellence program going? How about the accounting, fiscally, new database, and otherwise?
By Sandra April 2, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Check out the Rumor Mill…accessible on the musc website…it has not been shut down, yet.

Big changes at the top looming and existing. Provost, financial directors, department heads, et al.
By Rick April 5, 2009 at 12:41 am
Why hasn’t any of this shown up in the Post and Courier??? Are they also involved in the cover up?
By Rose April 7, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Rick, yes. The Post and Courier have been MUSC apologists for years, along with Channel 5 TV. The reporters have lost their way and have sold their souls and ruined prospects for a serious career. Thank their bosses and their naïve friendship with MUSC flacks for this. These people have dashed their honorable roll as protecters of our press and freedom. This is both dangerous and depressing.
By Jim April 8, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Rose, This is one of the reasons the Post and Courier is loosing readers.
It’s a mouthpiece for the big organizations and not a newspaper who cares for the people in the Charleston area. If they sent one reporter to MUSC for a week and just talked with the people they would have enough information to start numerous state and federal investigations – some of which would lead to convictions and dismissal of a couple of folks at the top. Info has been presented in Fitsnews that should have been followed up by the local media but they are either incompetent, on the take, or fearful of the powers at MUSC. They definitely aren’t doing their jobs looking out for the taxpayers and people of this area. For example – why was Paul Taylor – the auditor – told to go away and as long as keeps his mouth shut he continues getting his pay check? Did he discover some corruption taking place at ART and try to rectify it?
Why is Dean Reeves loudly telling everyone that he didn’t hire Linda Austin and Dr. Greenberg, as vocally, disputing it saying he had nothing to do with the illegal hiring of Dr. Austin – that it was Dean Reeves who hired her? Everyone here knows that Dr. Greenberg is, as usual, lying.
Why when there are cuts being made and people being laid-off does Dr. Austin with less than a one day a week job allowed to hire a full time assistant?
And although Dr. Austin responded with a lot of hog-wash, if you compute her salary on a normal five day work week, she would be making in excess of 600K per year. Not a bad part time gig.

Clemson should LOVE this! It makes the old USC Jim Holderman days look like heaven. Maybe everyone’s numb. Maybe McMaster is so self-tuned to his aspirations that he fears pursuing this rocking boat might just wash him out of the political picture. What a flimsy joke of a prosecuting attorney, that man. Meanwhile, if Gov. Mark was really serious about fiscal conservatism, he would blast what is happening on his watch and perpetrated by those he appointed. Though he, like Hank Mac, appear far too focused on the image in the mirror.

News flash! The governor’s office is finally looking into the brainless board members and the perfect, financial and adminstrative nonsense by the Greenberg administration. Of course, that being said, pleading by political cohorts for favors will be dispensed and the gov’s office will be poltitely dismissive and conveniently distracted…Ugh!

Where in the Hell is the “mainstream media”? Are they all fawning over the the Obama administration, or even the old Bush hold-outs? God help us!

Watching three women hissing and fighting like ferel cats is great entertainment. These women, Linda, Chris and Sarah; all are top MUSC executives from every corner of MUSC public and internal communications. But their manicured claws are extended, gouging anyone who threatens their boxes. With tails erect, these envious tomcat-wannabes mark terrorities as they eat their kittens. It reduces females to the level of poop-lumped litter as these otherwise intelligent, qualified women, demonstrate that they have nothing better to do than to justify generalistic opinions that women can’t behave in positions of authority, especially when other females threaten their proverbial dens.
By Layne April 17, 2009 at 11:27 am
I think Salome is sitting in the “poop-lumped litter” mentioned in the above nonsense. The Linda he speaks about isn’t a top MUSC executive. She is actually a part-time employee. I don’t know that much about the Chris – although I assume this is a reference to the Marketing Director. I have worked very well with the Sarah he mentioned. She is a top notch professional in charge of a top notch and effective and very dedicated department. She is a very classy lady and way above any of the nonsense mentioned by Salome. Just ask anyone on campus who has had the pleasure of working with her or her department. She is owed an apology.
By Ray April 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm
I totally agree with Layne about Sarah. I also work at MUSC and have had the pleasure of working with her and her department several times. She is considerate, intelligent, dedicated to the University, her staff and the ultimate professional. Anyone here at MUSC who has been associated with her will loudly attest to this. I have never heard an “un-kind” word about anyone from her. Quite the opposite – she continually compliments her friends and associates. What free time she has is spent working with abused and neglected children.
I totally agree and second the motion for an apology from the “poop lumper”.
By Sue April 17, 2009 at 1:08 pm
“poop-lumper” is full of poop, obviously has some personal ax to grind and perhaps is the biggest male chauvinist on the planet.
By Jerry April 17, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Salome – you are an idiot who obviously doesn’t know fact from fiction
By Louis April 17, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Tell me what this alleged cat fight has to do with the real issues discussed earlier? Sounds more like a jealous female looking to get out of mid management than a male chauvenist. Let’s keep our heads on straight and get the world right side up.

You are the most ego-maniacal, hypocritical, narrow-minded, and humorless bunch there are. Do you ever leave the “Lowcountry” or imagine a world of accomplishments and possibilities beyond these borders (between Cannon, Rutledge, Calhoun and Lockwood). Surely, yours is a tiny world requiring infinitesimal minds and lack of real leadership and model? Try driving north on 95, west on 20 or, for the expanse of it, past the Rockies, into Canada and Mexico, then perhaps overseas where the purpose of your designation is not for some veiled seminar or conference, but for the real experience and mission beyond your formal dining room or mahogany-stained office suite; actual learning, and not shopping or other hedonistic purposes. Chauvinism. Feminism. How silly. The truth revealing lack of character can sting.
By Fred April 17, 2009 at 11:41 pm
It has appeared that Sarah had an audience. Interesting.
By Crystal April 18, 2009 at 12:30 am
Since we are praising the girls, I would like to add that Chris Murray is perhaps the most level-headed of the bunch — mean as a viper — but focused on her task. The others, I do not know about. They do well at dinner parties, I understand.
By Rhonda April 18, 2009 at 8:01 am
Salome is getting his jollies watching female executives disagree. I say he since Salome is certinly a man. The male leadership is so publicly fractious that the females appear to be having a congenial tea party.
Only a man would see a female disagreement as fighting and miss the magnitude of the intense hostility that exists in the mens room. Oh ladies, we have a long way to go before we can relax our standards, lower our work ethics, and exhibit normal behavior and yet still be accepted in the board rooms.

Fred work with her. When you see how well done and how fast what you asked for is in front of you by her or her staff, you will know why she has an audience.
If you need to find a kitty a home or save a child from torment or hunger ask her to help with that and you will understand her following. I’ve worked and watched for a long time. No finer in Carolina.

How can I send you more memos? I need a way to upload the PDF docs.
