Mr. Hendricks and dear readers,

My apologies - my memory from 22 years ago was a tad off. The President's speech write gives a GREAT account of the formulation of that speech.

The irony of ironies is that Colon Powell opposed the THUMP line as being too "provacative". No wonder the wuss supports President Obama.

The memory of the notecards was spot on. Do yourselve a favor and take a few moments and watch the video of President Reagan's speech at the Brandenburg Gate:

It ought to be required viewing in every high school in the land!

Gary,

Not sure what you're talking about. Try again, this time in English.

Gary, no video was "destroyed" because it was in front of a print-only press pool. There were no cameras.

And what you seem to think happened did not happen—at least according to people who were, you know, actually there:

Pat,
I'm afraid you spend way too much time on your link posted last nite at 11pm. I suppose that is why you have so much class.

Has any politician every thanked himself before an international audience? How humiliating! So who cares if Reagan used a teleprompter? I don't.

I don't recall Reagan ever thanking himself before an international audience. If he had, I'm sure it would be comedy gold and we still would be watching it on MSNBC. I'm sure leaders from other countries think Obama is an absolute idiot.

Only Obama is that daft! (All audio and video of the event have been destroyed)

Speaking of stupidity, Clinton's "recharge" button fiasco is symbolic of the utter incompetence of Obama's foreign policty team. We will never win another cold war against the Ruskies if our "best and brightest" are too dumb to grasp basic Russian.

It's pretty comical to watch everyone try to ignore the main point brought up by Pat Hendrix's quotes about Reagan from Kos.

"Hey, let's pretend it matters one iota where Hendrix saw the quotes, that way we don't have to address the comment."

Brilliant strategy, except you're not fooling anybody and it just highlights the fact that you guys do not have a substantive reply.

There's a difference between someone who uses a teleprompter because they need it, and someone who uses one because it's a good idea. I've seen enough non-prompted speeches and unscripted debates & interviews by Obama to understand that he has an actual grasp of the issues, and can talk about them off the top of his head without sounding like an idiot—except for his unfortunate reliance on the famous "uhs" to stall for time to gather his thoughts.

Of course, I'm sure Bard and Sylivia were just BLOWN AWAY by Palin's nomination acceptance speech, even after it became clear that without a teleprompter and a speech written by someone else that she made GWB look like a master wordsmith.

Foot soilder, it was a great speech, one of the best in American history. Gorbachev, however, was not there. It was delivered in West Berlin.

Called my hand, Sylvia? Now you're mixing your metaphors. And quotations are not talking points. Sorry, kids, the larger question remains unanswered. What's the difference?

Pat,
We all know what touche means. I thought you were being original and not regurgitating talking points from Daily Kos. I thought your brain was bigger than that!

Busted! The Bard called your hand!

And The Bard, yes, my book about archaeology was originally found in Pent House forum. The title "Down and Dirty" should have been your tip-off.

In any event, when using quotes from one blog that were crossed referenced from another blog and again cross posted on this blog - none with proper citation of the primary source - I'll make sure and give proper credit to statisfy your sense of fairness.

You can start here:

Patricia,

Best not rely on "sources" like the Daily Floss.

I didn't see any teleprompters, just good old fashioned index cards, at the Berlin Wall when President Reagan jacked Gorbachev upside the head with the impromptu "Mr. Gorbachev - TEAR DOWN THIS WALL."

The expression on Gorby's face upon being given the translation was fukin PRICELESS!
