McConnell’s “Kapitolpolizeitruppe” Moves Forward

Senate President Glenn McConnell is one step closer to pulling off a petty and vindictive “military coup” that would further splinter South Carolina’s law enforcement agencies and do nothing to materially enhance security at the State House complex.

Still, McConnell’s crackpot bill establishing a legislatively-controlled Kapitolpolizeitruppe (a.k.a. Capitol Police Force) will now be debated on the floor of the Senate after his own Judiciary Committee approved the legislation earlier this week by a vote of 17-5.

Frankly, it’s amazing that seventeen Senators would vote to grow government for any reason these days, let alone something this stupid.

As we have noted previously (using similar intentionally inflammatory Nazi imagery), this bill is pure vanity and nonsense.

There are no legitimate security reasons to pass it, no resources to fund it and on top of that it constitutes a dangerous extension of police power to a branch of government that neither needs nor deserves it.

This bill is all about McConnell’s private war with Gov. Mark Sanford, plain and simple.

He wants to remove State House security duties from the Bureau of Protective Services – which is run from one of Sanford’s Cabinet agencies – and place those functions in his own hands, but knowing McConnell’s megalomania and penchant for blowing your tax dollars, it won’t stop there.

Mark our words, this will turn into a taxpayer-funded paramilitary operation that does lawmakers’ dirty work for them, which is why McConnell has already moved to give it sweeping statewide powers.

The potential for abusing this police authority by our lawmakers is unlimited, and any Representative or Senator who votes in favor of this naked power grab is guilty of abusing the public trust.

SC Tiger,

Sorry, we had it (and a link) on the previous article we did.

It’s S. 576, and lo, below you can behold it in all its fascist glory.
