In an event that could easily end in assassination, our founding editor will be traveling to one of the many institutions he has publicly eviscerated next month, delivering an address on whatever happens to pop into his fool head to the Charleston Law Republicans, a group comprised of students from the Charleston School of Law (CSOL).
Longtime FITS readers will recall that there is no love lost between Sic Willie and CSOL, most of it stemming from the statewide scandal we broke in November 2007 involving the S.C. Supreme Court tossing an entire section of the state bar exam – allegedly in an effort to benefit the school and its benefactors.
That was, in many ways, the story that first put our little website on the map, although we’re pretty sure most CSOL graduates would have preferred that we get famous some other way.
Also, we’ve heard the story we did comparing the institution to Barry Bonds went over particularly poorly.
Sorry ’bout that …
Anyway, we’ll have more details on the event soon for those of you who want to start cleaning your rifles.

Sic: Be sure to ask them why their job placement stats are not disclosed when every other law shows theirs….

Mr. Willie:
You have been tormenting my child and the others in his class for years. We are tired of it. Your stories make them feel sad and like they not as goo as other lawyers and law students because of their school. I want you to know I love these children and think they will be fine lawyers. Now, you made a big stink over the Bar and I do not think that was right. These kids need support, not criticism. I know over *1/2* of the 2007 class passed the Bar exam and some of those have gone on to be state court clerks and a few PD’s in Farfield. These alumni will start the large, powerful and wealthy group that will make CSOL a power to be reckoned with.
I will be at your little speech with some other CSOL Moms. We did not pay $40,000 a year for CSOL degrees to watch the school get trashed by a a so called “journalist.”
Finally, I know the Bar Exam Wills testing section looks bad and a lot of CSOL kids went from failing to passing, but I think they should have anyway. How can you try to make the CSOL children take the same hard test as everyone else?! That is not fair. They have pressures on their time in Charleston that are not present other places.
Good luck with your speech. I plan to come watch. CSOL c/o 2007 Mom

Pretty sure that the audience has to be larger than five in order to classify as “an address.”
By Not Sayin', Just Sayin' March 24, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Sic, be sure speak very slowly and maybe illustrate your points with cartoons to help these young scholars understand what you’re talking about. Now, will this speech be in the “law school” or in the adjacent bar better known as the Music Farm?
By ehhh March 24, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Didn’t Mande go there? Will she be speaking too?
By CSOL Professor March 24, 2009 at 5:09 pm
We will welcome you, sir. We had over 10 of our students past the Bar last year and become lawyers . Quite a win for a new shcool like us. 5 of those 10 alumni are now employed and 2 of them even work for firms that are not their father’s.
We have the greatest lawschool in all of Charleston – just ask any of us.

Will: Congrats. I bet $100 you will be the only non-virgin in the room and be far the most succesful. Have fun with this crowd. Sounds fun. What happened to them all claiming to have the #1 school of all time?

That post has got to be a joke. Right? Right??! God help us all if that’s the attitude of the parents who raised the latest generation of lawyers. I can see it now, “But Your Honor…that’s not fair! I was busy and didn’t have time to prepare. Ask my mom!”

sic(k) willie clearly has a lot of free time on his hands. And the Charleston School of Law must really be having a hard time finding intelligent speakers.
Reader poll – the video at this link:

Which looks and acts more like sic(k) willie?
The lead singer with the half sleeve tat?
Or, the chubby weight lifter in the red tights?

PTBTFT W/O HELP,
I’d be willing to bet that Mom’s post is satirical. Hoping so, anyway!

Hi. I ran for 3rdVP of USC UPState CR 2 years ago and am really wanting to get into CSOL for law school. I made a 137 LSAT and have 2.1 GPA, but I am into public service. Does CSOL help people like me? Can I introduce you to the GOP Club there – I have like tons of Facebook friends there.

Supreme “favors”:
“A legislator’s daughter posted these comments on a friend’s facebook page on 11/6:
“First Post 1:53pm: surely you are not implying that i passed based on a technicality and not becasue of my excellent legal reasoning skills. serioulsy though, we worked really hard last week to make this happen and i’m just relieved that its all over and i can move on!
Second Post 3:07pm: no, its not a joke. if the court was going to overturn the scores on their own they would have done it before the results were first announced. it took some effort.
These are EXACT quotes. She has since deleted these posts but there are copies circulating.”

See if you can get into the ultra-exclusive “Forensic Club.”
—
The Charleston School of Law is rooted in tradition. In fact, its origins predate the formation of the oldest law school in the country.
In 1825, a group of Charleston attorneys chartered The Forensic Club, a place to provide lectures on the law.
In February 1826, The Forensic Club offered lectures in the law to begin what essentially was the South’s earliest law school.
This 19th-century tradition of law continues today through the Charleston School of Law, which has been assigned an interest in the original Forensic Club.

This is a total joke.

USC Law recently had its budget slashed and then slashed again!! USC Law had to cut all adjunct faculty members, cut funding for SBA activities, moot court, law review, etc. Also, alumni generally despise their law school experience at USC Law–the “new law school” plans have been on the table for almost 10 years now. Also, USC Law is getting a little sneaky–they can make their students solicit donations! And, they don’t have to pay them! They can just give them some “refreshments” instead!! http://law.sc.edu/ebrief/index.pdf

Point taken “USC Law=Aint Got No Money.”
You nailed it on several points.
Our school sucks. Seriously it does. The adjunct faculty thing was really bad and the budget shortfalls have really created an awful vibe around the whole place. Also, our building is an embarrassment but I don’t see the new one being built before 2025. The list goes on and on…
However, as bad as our school is, CSOL is comically worse.
Name one of your classmates that could have gone to USC S of L that decided instead to pay $30,000 per year to go to CSOL instead. Didn’t think so.
Enjoy Charleston.
By Worse? Or better than seriously sucking? March 25, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Just how are we so much worse as we still have plenty of funding for our professors and activities. We have a great vibe around our school.
THAT’S why we want to pay $30,000 a year. Although there are plenty of people at CSOL who also were accepted at USC Law, we choose not to look at that statistic for the value of our school because, as you said, “Our school sucks. Seriously it does.”
By CSOLover March 26, 2009 at 7:57 am
No one would go to CSOL if they had a spot at USC. People may claim that, but it is just not try. CSOL needs to come out with some job stats to show off how awesome that $40,000/year price is.
