Brand Palin Is Struggling
We’ve seldom gotten as high on a politician as we were last summer on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Sure, a lot of it was her rockin’ bod and damn near irresistible “you betcha” thing, but there was a perceived ideological affinity at work, too.
Palin honestly struck us as somebody who could bring the GOP back to life based on a Reagan-inspired fiscal revival.
And while “Sarah Barracuda” appears to have sufficiently recovered her dollars-and-sense cred after rejecting a third of Alaska’s federal bureaucratic bailout funding (good for her), the crushing reality we’re having to deal with is that our “fave diva” isn’t everything we thought she was.
Or even a lot of what we thought she was.
In a political climate screaming for authenticity and earnestness, Palin (for now, at least) just isn’t the real deal.
In fact, she comes off as stiff and stage-managed. Poorly stage-managed, at that.
Since the election four-and-a-half months ago, Palin has stumbled, bumbled and fumbled through a series of unimpressive maneuvers – the latest of which was her gratuitious pile-on of President Barack Obama in the wake of his Special Olympics comment last week …
“I was shocked to learn of the comment made by President Obama about Special Olympics. This was a degrading remark about our world’s most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world. These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will. By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them.”
Look, we rip on Obama every day.
No really – every single day.
We think he’s a socialist and a hypocrite, and we’re not at all shy in saying so.
But Palin – who obviously thinks her righteous indignation sells because she has a child with Down Syndrome – doesn’t get it.
Sure Obama apologized for the joke (right about the same time Palin was firing off her missive attacking him), but he shouldn’t have.
And here’s why …
Believe it or not, you can make Special Olympics jokes and still respect, appreciate and admire the Special Olympics and everything it stands for.
You can also joke using the term “retarded” and still respect, appreciate and admire retarded people.
It’s called having a sense of humor.
Honestly, when did the world go and get so f*cking serious?
Palin, of all the GOP’s prospective 2012 candidates, had the perfect opportunity to score some real political points here by saying something like …
“He was joking. I get that. What’s the big deal?”
Now be rational for a moment and tell us – which response would have resonated most with you?
Besides, Palin should have known that Obama was already going to be taking inordinate amounts of sh*t from the P.C. Police over his comment and that her piling on would be viewed as predictable.
Of course however poorly Palin gives criticism, she takes it even worse – neither of which bodes well for her surviving a rough-and-tumble 2012 GOP primary.
We honestly don’t know who the hell is advising Palin at the moment, but she needs to show them the door and find somebody with a clue – quickly.
Tick-tock, tick-tock.
You’re in the big leagues now, Sarah. Time to start acting like it.

Since you didn’t enumerate the stumbles, bumbles and fumbles you believe she has made, I suspect you just don’t like Sarah Palin, and should come right out and say so. She had every right to take on 0bama over his lame attempt at humor, the man simply has no class whatsoever, and its good to see politcal correctness thrown in the face of a left winger from time to time.
Palin 2012

Come on, you know that if a Republican had made that Special Olympics comment it would have made front page as well as cable news for days. And unfortunately for Obama, without his teleprompter, saying things like that is becoming the norm. Sarah Palin is doing a fine job in Alaska and if the “brand” is really struggling why even comment on it. The truth is, it isn’t struggling at all. And before listing all her bumbles and fumbles, why don’t you go ahead and list all the bumbles and fumbles made by the White House so far.
By Ron Devito on March 23rd, 2009 at 6:44 am
“Brand Palin” is struggling because of lies spread by Obama and his henchmen. This man who occupies the Oval Office has not one second of executive experience to his name prior to taking this job — and it shows. Governor Palin has almost 17 years in positions of increasing responsibility.
Governor Palin did not engage in “righteous self-indignation.” Obama has no use for the weak and vulnerable in this society, be they handicapped or otherwise. His extreme positions on abortion — which even some ***pro-choice*** people find repugnant and his recent attempt to charge disabled veterans for medical treatment are indicative.
Obama’s Special Olympics gaffe was not a mere gaffe. It was a Freudian slip which opened the window to his ugly soul. Governor Palin, a week before Obama’s gaffe made a video supporting the Special Olympics. At a rally, she said this: “The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and to speak for themselves.”
Governor Palin routinely goes out of her way to be with these children, taking them in her arms. She sacrificed three meetings which could have been politically beneficial to her so she could do a humanitarian mission to distressed communities in Western Alaska. She did not leave until every household received food and supplies, and in her finest hour, knelt in the snow before an Eskimo child. Governor Palin practices what she preaches. She serves with a servant’s heart.
Obama never has and never will do such a thing. Bereft of his teleprompter he is a big zero. He is grossly unfit for the job he holds. The policies he advances and his agenda are dangerous and malicious to this country. There are 1399 days left in his miserable administration. The end cannot come quick enough.
His Special Olympics gaffe shows him exactly as he is, just as Governor Palin’s commentary on the weak and vulnerable in this society show exactly who she is.
Her brand may be struggling, but I for one would take a bullet for her; I would put my life in her hands knowing that I would be safe. I wouldn’t trust Obama with a shipment of lead bars.

Americans know that you must sacrifice and make tough decisions to fix the economy. I don’t think anyone really believes Obama’s fairy tale that you can spend your way to prosperity, nor do they support his socialist agenda. If all politicians made the tough decisions like Governor Palin, we we be so much better off. Obama’s henchmen and big money backers are targeting Palin to bring her down financially. It is an outrage that she is being slated for political assination. Since she is not personally wealthy, they think they can destroy her financially and force her out of the political arena. This is truly sad that the elite can control our politics in this manner. Think about it sheeple. Is this what you want, for the common person to have no chance against the wealthy elite? Meanwhile, the Harvard elitist bumbles endlessly, making his priorities a super bowl party, honoring Stevie wonder, endless celebrity parties every Wednesday, picking the final 4 and holding a press conference about it,appearing on magazine covers and Leno appearances, and he even admits he has been practicing his bowling. When does Obama have time to do his job? Geithner sits with no staff, and the fumbles and bumbles of the white house would take a whole book to cover. Obama is all about class warefare, and these attacks on Palin are part of that. Who paid for the 30 attorneys that descended on Alaska to try to dig up something on Palin. How do you think Kim Elton is enjoying his Washington appointment for his part in dragging out the troopergate investigation. Crooked Chicago politics at it’s best.
By MO Inkslinger on March 23rd, 2009 at 9:25 am
Palin is not a polished Beltway politician, but for many voters she provided a break from the bologna feed to us by Congressmen who believe they know how to run America’s businesses and run an individual’s life.
Palin provides a welcomed relief from cigar-chewing, business-suited, Ivy League educated lawyers turned politicians who are willing to sell their votes for the highest price. In the arena of women politicians, she was a standout in her dress and heels from the clown-sized pants suits with bustles of other female politicians. Her charm and warmth were improvements over cold and shrill screams of other female candidates. Washington has become a place where voters sent their Representatives and Senators for eternity and many of these politicians have forgotten about the taxpayers back home they have pledged to represent.
During the campaign, too many people got caught up on whether Palin could see Russia from her kitchen window, her folksy way with words, whether she knew the Bush Doctrine or what type of toilet paper was in the White House bathrooms. Harry Truman didn’t even have a college degree and he managed the country. So far, I have not been too impressed with the many of the recent presidents and I think the last good president the country had was an actor. So who is to say a mother, hockey mom, communications degreed, gun-toting Wasilla warrior would not make a good President?
There is a need for the Republican Party to recreate itself and no single person is going to be the Messiah for the party. Remember we have the Messiah in the White House now and so far he hasn’t been able to part the waters. Palin has the opportunity to be a part of a revitalization of the Party.
Is she the sole savior of the party? No, but she does represent a start.

Every Democrat in the country hopes and prays the GOP puts Sarah “the simple” Palin on the GOP ticket in 2012. If she cant handle Katie Couric in a simple interview (and she obviously couldn’t..and no “what newspapers do you read” is not a trick question!)how in the hell would she handle Iran, North Korea and various other hard players on the world market? She has proven over and over again that she is not a mental giant and has huge issues grasping international issues, and well most national issues as well. judging by the trainwreck that her family is, i dont think she has that great a grasp on her personal issues either.
She might be a great small town mayor (alhtough she took wasilla with no debt, zero, and left Wasilla with a 22 million dollar debt, hey tht sounds like another Prez i know..)she in no way has shown a grasp of the larger issues facing our country. She basically played to the lowest common denominator in the GOP..the I hate crowd; i hate fags, i hate anyone who isnt a christian, i hate illegal aliens etc..ironically the GOP controlled congress for 12 of the last 14 years, the white house for 20 of the last 28 years and yet not a single one of these so called issues was ever touched. They are basically red herrings brought out every election to excite the ignorant to vote. (Ron devitto..poster child of my point!!) So please keep praying that Sarah is your girl and the GOP will go the way of the Pinto and the 8 track player..off into the land of complete and utter irrelevence!

You can live in whatever delusional state you prefer however when you consider her national polling numbers, and they are awful, she polls low with woman, with minorities, the only segment she pulls in is the over 55 white male crowd and that aint gonna get her or the GOP elected. Period. You can press the all caps button as much as you like but the fact remains you are backing a dead horse and the GOP knows it. I will say this and leave it at this in regards to this article. Do you think Sarah Palin is ready to lead the United States into a post-recession era? While she is a chief executive of a state, what is the total population of Alaska? How is the state operating fiscally? What level are the public schools operating at? How strong is higher education and how much retention does it generate to contribute to the state with knowledge workers (private or public)? What industries are moving into the area for job creation? Also, the GOP has said much and gotten much thrown in their faces on similar slips. While President Obama (regardless of how you may personally feel) is the chief executive of the US, he has only been on the job for 2 months and 3 days. Let me say that again for those that might not understand time and performance for a new hire…that’s right our president like others is a new hire in this role. Regardless, if it is Fox News or Fits News, he has only been President for 2 months and 3 days. What do you expect him to accomplish in that amount of time? Had he just sat on his hands (like many right winged Republicans banging on the “Free Market” system), he would be criticized for not doing anything while Americans suffer. Quite interesting how Gov. Mark Sanford is doing an excellent job of that for South Carolina. Yet, if he acted to slowly that would mean he is not in touch with the urgency that this crisis has taken on. Sorry, I’ve got to cut the man some slack. Hey, if I did it for George W. Bush during his first term I promise you can do it for Barack H. Obama during his first few months.
By Gary on March 23rd, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Look, Governor Palin expressed her feelings. A whole bunch of people were hurt by this deal. Now I agree, it’s a bit overblown, but I was glad to see her weigh in. Maria Shriver, certainly had a more forceful statement.
It’s interesting to compare Obama’s joke with the address Sarah Palin gave for the opening of the Special Olympics.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/03/20/aol-hot-seat-poll-the-special-olympics-joke/
What offends me, is this POS going on the Tonight show yucking it up while America’s economy is in serious trouble. But this narcissistic loser has to receive his adulation, OR ELSE!
As for Sarah Palin, her star continues to rise. She will be re-elected easily, and is on track to be POTUS in 2012. The voters look at all of the silliness that the Obama people are trying to do to her, and just get more solidly behind her.
Think about it, all of the Obama smear resources are aimed at Palin. If she was “irrelevant” they wouldn’t waste the effort!
Now…..This is for “The Truth” (what a ridiculous name for a liberal)
Pal, it’s GOVERNOR Palin!
Yes, she was the mayor of Wasilla. And yes, the people of Wasilla asked for and VOTED FOR a new indoor sports arena and convention center. And surprise…they had to finance it! Just exactly how did YOU buy your house? Moron.
Speaking of hate, you liberals have the market cornered on that, it’s all you know. You also have the market cornered on stupidity.
As far as grasping “international issues”, where is there any evidence of that? She is constantly working on trade deals and was able to do something Alaskans have been trying to do for 30 years, make a deal on a natural gas pipeline to the lower 48.
As Governor, she runs a state that has no income tax or sales tax, and yet, her state isn’t broke like most of the others. She’s done it by being a strong fiscal conservative. She is what we need running the nation.
Lynnrockets….you are too cute by half. All of you liberals are just so sad.
You should know that so-called “troopergate” was a put up deal by the Obama campaign. It was all engineered by them, with aid of Kim Elton, Hollis French, and Stephen Branchflower.
In the end, she was cleared of all charges. And Kim Elton was rewarded by Obama with a make work job at the Department of Interior.

You obviously have no connection to that community, or you would’ve known how offensive what the President said was.
As far as her criticism of the media, I say damn right Guv, get’em. It’s disgraceful what they did to her children.

Gary…you would be worth responding to if you didnt spew such crap. The Obama campaign created troopergate..really they enginereed the guy marrying her sister and the mess that came after..wow what forsight for Obama. You watch too much Fox news Garrry. Please post one shred of evidence to back your statement. In regards to whether Palin can handle international issues, jsut how many video clips would you like me to post. I knwo you think of them all as “gotcha questions” but the fact is she was completly unprepared to run for POTUS and she proved it every time she opened her mouth. This was not an unknown issue as demonstrated by the fact she was rarely allowed to talk to the press and for good reason, she jsut didnt come off that well when she went off message, i.e. and question she was asked. Before you spew your Palin taling points MORON, perhaps you should actually know what you are talking about, you sir and the perfect voter for palin, ill informed and close to illiterate on world affairs. I hope the GOP runs her in 2012..it will be just another in a long line of examples of why GOP is irrelevent. You have lost any youth vote, any hispanic/minority vote, hell the only ground the gop actually gained voters was the 65 and older crowd, you lost percentages in every single demograph besides the old ignorant white dudes (Gary) so when you become relevent again pelase come back and talk about what ideas your party will run on. Ideas, not put downs. lets see what you got Garry..you toolbox!
By The Truth on March 23rd, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Another perfect example of Gary not having a clue,,and yes ill resort to childish name calling as you couldnt help yourself..first off dumbass, it isnt due to her fiscally conservative policys that Alaska has no deficits, its because of oil revenue schmuck. Her only real job is to decide hwo to spend all the revenue and they always have a surplus that goes out to all citizens once a year, ususally about 100-1300 per person. This happens every year regardless of who holds office, dem or repub alike. This perfectly illustrates the typical Palin voter, completly devoid of any knowledge yet spewing fox news talkiing points like they know what they are talking about. Again Garry the toolbox, go get some facts then come back and have an adult conversation without the name calling or generalizing of an entire political party you hack!!

The Truth should actually correct the untruth he or she spouts. Gov. Palin’s nationwide favorability rating has increased from 49 percent right after the election to 52 percent at the end of January based on a Rassmusen poll. That included a big increase in her favorable numbers among independent voters. It should be noted that 0bama’s favorability rating was about the same at the end of October. With the Alaskan legislative session ending in mid April she will be coming to several events, starting with a Right to Life and Down Syndrome events in Indiana. The Right to Life event is sold out of their usual 2,000+ tickets, and they’ve opened up an area that seats 2,500 where people can watch via live feed. This is just the beginning of a nationwide appearance schedule. Her favorable numbers will continue to rise, and 0bama’s will continue to decline, she may very well pass him by the end of the summer, maybe even earlier.
By Granitepaaw on March 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 pm
What kind of fool are you? Governor Palin is showing the governors of America how it should be done. She takes only stimulus money that will be beneficial to create jobs and build infrastructure. She continues to promote the Pipelines so need in Alaska and the lower 48. She saves Alaska hundreds of thousands of dollars by living at home and driving herself to work. And now you criticize her for defending the people of the Special Olympics. Very silly! What would happen if a republican said that. It would have been ten times the uproar. I hope you will view the differences in the two videos that someone posted up above. That says the story very clearly. Governor Palin is the real deal; honesty character, and tenacity.
By Paul Lincoln on March 24th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
At this time, I am not keeping up with the current events surrounding the Sarah Palin’s political activity. I did found out her when she was a mayor of Wassilia. I even remember when she mentioned that she doesn’t listen to listen to little people. As the Mayor of Wassila, that is if someone is telling a truth. She increased taxes for a regular citizens, while she reduced down the tax for businesses.
Sarah Palin did represented the new energy, new face; but the fact of matter is. Can she really solve any major problem that deals with the Alaska Natives or other minorities. If she doesn’t want to listen to the little people than she doesn’t qualify to fit a category of NEW ENERGY; NEW FACE. She is just another politician of the past, which presents DEPRESSION, hiding under beneath the beautiful face.
I think there is someone out there, can represent NEW ENERGY, NEW FACE type of attitude for the next election.
