McAlister’s Geezer Media
We’ve already written a word or two about veteran (and we do mean “veteran”) GOP consultant Bob McAlister’s treatise on the mainstream media yesterday, but we felt we needed to clarify ourselves a bit.
An impassioned defense of the dead tree news industry- and in particular former liberal La Socialista editor Brad Warthen – we complimented McAlister’s story just yesterday on its smooth-flowing rhetorical mellifluousness.
Which we did even though 99% of the people who read it felt that McAlister was taking a direct pot shot at our website.
We also appreciate the fact that Bob has brought his cane and Viagra to the new media, which we believe sorely needs more of his geezer … err, grandfatherly perspective.
But don’t confuse our “hat tip” as agreeing with him.
While we appreciate Bob’s faith in the veracity and virtue of the MSM (in fact, it’s kind of touching), the truth is that these institutions are every bit as biased as we are.
Unlike FITS, though, they hide behind some veil of institutional credibility and assumption of impartiality – neither of which has anything of substance behind it.
They can talk about their standards and their impartiality all they want, but all we have to say back is “Jayson Blair.” And “John Monk.”
Of course that’s neither here nor there.
The real point is this – if we’re just “gunslingers” hiding behind “monied interests,” then why did our website’s audience grow by 440% (that’s right, 440%) last year while La Socialista is reaching for its next (and possibly last) gasp of oxygen.
Sic Willie has made it crystal clear on many occasions he could give a rat’s ass about credibility, which ironically is one reason it would appear he has so much of it …

Well said, your royal Sicness. You have to give the ol’ school MSM-types a break, though. This whole paradigm shift, sea change, new media thing snuck right up on ‘em (not). It’ll evidently take a while longer even for them to “get it” (and adjust). Of course, they’ll be in denial long enough (due primarily to the arrogance and hubris “journalistic integrity” to which your piece today alludes) that by then there won’t be nearly as many of them for you rail against.

Truth be told I was NOT happy with last week’s “Spring Break” piece – there BETTER be a follow-up with a lot more “coverage”!
It is fun to read when the holier than thous squirm when the kleig lights are replaced by a spotlight on some spending practice, hypocrisy, or otherwise moronic policy.
Speaking of morons – wouldn’t it be great if Greenberg or any of the other presidents of South Carolina Hospitals had one-hundreth the brain of President Paul Levy at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA:
