Michael Phelps was dumped by Kellogg’s cereals for taking bong hits at a University of South Carolina frat party last year, but it appears the Olympic champion has managed to “rise” above the controversy.
Not only is Kellogg’s suffering some serious consumer blowback for its decision to dump the 23-year-old, but Phelps’ bong incident is now getting credit for feeding the homeless.
From the San Franciso Chronicle:
The celebrated marijuana controversy surrounding Olympic superstar swimmer Michael Phelps has turned out to benefit the San Francisco Food Bank.
Soon after a British newspaper published a photo of what appeared to be Phelps smoking marijuana, Kellogg’s announced it would not renew the swimmer’s endorsement contract – never mind the eight gold medals he won at the Beijing Olympics.
Apparently, that left only one problem: what to do with the boxes of Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes bearing Phelps’ toothy grin. The answer seemed pretty clear two weeks ago when the local Food Bank took delivery of nearly 2 tons of the cereal.
How cool is karma?
Seriously, homeless people get their “munchies” taken care of, Kellogg’s gets ripped for being a bunch of sanctimonious corporate bitches, and Michael Phelps becomes the pitied poster child for America’s senseless prohibition on pot.
Now all we need is for Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott to get indicted for something …

Not gonna happen. That sheriff is as squeaky clean as Mitt Romney.
Neither one would make a good mud pie.

We should indict Lott for being the spitting image of Tommy Bowden. Guilty!

Mab has not been in SC long I see. Or either did not know our present sheriff about 30 to 40 years ago. He was typical teenager & young man and had his share of fun. Nothing terrible but I would never call him squeaky clean. At least he grew out of it and in my little ole’ opinion has made a good sheriff. He keeps getting reelected. However, I do fault him for the huge mistake he made about pursuing Phelps. I believe our President even admits to some experimentation of illegal substances when he was younger. At least he is normal.

SC Duke,
30-40 years ago I, too, was a curious young thing.
Hard to imagine someone could avoid the stuff — what, with the growing conditions such as they are here.
Out West where I ‘matured’ the herb was so plentiful you could sprinkle your spaghetti sauce with it if you ran out of oregano or basil or bay leaves or…
!Muy bueno!
