Warthen and The State lied about Sen. Knotts in the last primary. This from another listserv posted here at the suggestion of the author.

I am happy to see Brad Warthen get the ax.

Why would I have such a cold hearted position?

During the Republican primary season last year, The State newspaper
endorsed Sen. Jake Knotts and constantly attacked challenger Katrina
Shealy. The State newspaper based virtually all of their opposition
on the "fact" that Shealy would support school vouchers - and even
worse, tax credits - if elected. The State claimed Knotts was the
candidate for strong public schools.

I called The State newspaper and talked with Brad Warthen. I asked
Warthen if he was aware of S. 457 - a bill to allow tax credits for
sending children to private schools or home schools. Warthen said he
was unaware of H. 457 even though it was currently up for
consideration in the Senate. The bill can be read at:
http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess117_2007-2008/bills/457.htm

I told Warthen The State was either incompetent or dishonest because
Knotts was one of the PRIMARY SPONSORS of S. 457, which included
school tax credits for sending children to private schools or even
home schooling.

I told Warthen it was wrong for The State to continue to declare
Knotts was the better candidate because of his support for public
education while opposing Shealy for what they feared she would support
- school tax credits - even though she had not declared her support
for school tax credits. I asked Warthen how The State could honestly
oppose Shealy over fears she might do exactly what Knotts was ALREADY
doing.

Warthen told me the fact Knotts already supported school tax credits
was not the issue because Knotts did not really support school tax
credits. So, even though Knotts was a primary sponsor of a school tax
credit bill, Warthen said Knotts did not support school tax credits -
and that is why The State would continue to endorse Knotts.

I told Warthen the people deserved better from a so-called newspaper.
I asked Warthen to drop The State's endorsement of Knotts and to
endorse Shealy. Warthen refused. I asked Warthen to drop The State's
endorsement of Knotts and to stay neutral. Warthen refused.

Well, I dropped my subscription to The State. This was a big deal for
me since I had been a subscriber since I moved to the Columbia area in
1985. But, I could no longer stomach giving these liars and
hypocrites another penny of my money.

So, good riddance Brad Warthen. You and your kind deserve to rot in
hell. While the 1st Amendment may give you the legal right to publish
lies, that still does not make it morally right.

Rob B.

Globalist, Brad Warthen, had no sympathy for the thousands of textile workers and other South Carolinians employed in manufacturing who saw their jobs terminated over the past three decades by so called free trade. These dumb Southerners were simply the necessary victims of a new world order where nationhood and citizenship took a backseat to the internationalist rhetoric of the journalistic elites. Nor did Mr. Warthen and the other open borders hacks at The State lift an eyebrow when thousands of other South Carolinians were fired and replaced by illegal aliens. And when any job came open in Columbia, from the President of U.S.C. to the head of the art museum, Warthen was the first to demand the job be filled with a transplant or even better someone residing in another state or country.

I don’t like to see anyone fired from their job but we all reap what we sow in this world and it appears that Karma finally caught up with Brad Warthen and company.
