Barbie At 50: Would You Still Go There?

Anybody who knows our founding editor can attest to his fetish for the “old stuff.”

Then again, anybody who knows our founding editor can also attest to his fetish for the “young stuff.”

Which is why the news that Barbie has turned 50 poses an interesting dilemma for him – and frankly, thousands of other men out there now pondering whether or not they would still hook up with inanimate objects at one-sixth scale seeing as they’re getting a little long in the tooth.

Of course, the good news is they really don’t have to make any such decision.

Barbie’s not actually aging, you see, that’s a parody doll.

And while Barbie (a.k.a. Barbara Millicent Roberts) has been perpetually reinvented and repackaged over the last fifty years, she hasn’t aged a day.

She has gotten a lot more expensive to “get with,” though, as dolls that sold for as little as $3 back in “the day” are now going for as much as $17,000.

Of course, that’s assuming you never opened the box and played with Barbie.

And believe us, we played with her … we played with her real good.
