Breaking Our Silence on Rihanna
Since our founding editor is widely known for his exceeding brutality against women, it’s been suggested by more than a few folks that we’ve been intentionally avoiding the whole Rihanna situation.
We’re not.
We think it’s incredibly tragic – and we think the fact that Rihanna has returned to the arms of her abuser is incredibly stupid.
But we’re not going to knock her (pardon the pun).
This is a free country, and there is a distinct cycle that people go through in these situations.
Rihanna is young and in love, and just because we consider her lack of judgment to be “appalling” doesn’t mean that she’s going to stop doing what she’s doing or start seeing it the way we do anytime soon.
As for Chris Brown, Rihanna has said she won’t testify against him or press charges, but there is supposedly another witness to the beating that left her battered, bruised and bloodied.
And it seems increasingly obvious at this point that there have been multiple incidents of physical abuse perpetrated by Brown against Rihanna.
All of which means he could still end up in jail if convicted on these two felony charges.
Obviously, this is a dramatically different situation than what went down in Sic’s case, where the accusation was that he pushed his former fiancee into a piece of furniture one time.
Sic pled guilty to the charge in court but has maintained before and since that he didn’t lay a finger on his ex, adopting a “devil may care” approach to his public perception.
His wife, Mrs. Sic, has also taken an unconventional approach to the lingering conversation concerning her husband, repeatedly telling people that she can “take him” if she needs to.
She also enjoys reminding him when appropriate that she is “already in the furniture” whenever he gets out of line.
“I think Rihanna’s stupid, though,” Mrs. Sic says. “This wasn’t about getting thrown into furniture, she got her face beat in.”
Good point. But again, we aren’t judging her. Nor are we judging Sic’s ex.
As much as Palmetto politicos (mostly Sic’s enemies) continue to bring up our state’s most famous “CDV” case, very little is known about what really went down before, during and after.
The untold story is a wild, complicated tale of money, sex, drugs, alcohol, addiction and, of course, power.
Maybe we’ll have to write a book about it one day, who knows …
One thing we do know is this – there is no topic we’re ever going to be “scared” to cover.
Ever.
