Let’s be honest – “earmark reform” has never been the sexiest issue in politics.

But a promise is a promise (is a promise), and President Barack Obama promised us he was different.

And more specifically, Obama promised us he would not sign spending bills that had been loaded up with porcine pet projects.

Well, guess what …

Psyche!

It turns out “The One” was just funnin’ about that, because he’s in fact going to sign a $410 billion spending bill that includes $7.7 billion in earmarks – or unnecessary spending items tacked onto legislation that lawmakers know is going to pass.

Also funny is how his two top advisors were reading off the same sheet of music in providing their “justification” for his decision …

“This is last year’s business,” said Obama’s budget director.

“That’s last year’s business,” said his Chief-of-Staff.

Yeah, sort of like Obama’s “Change” mantra from last year has been replaced by “more of the same” this year.

Now more than ever, America needs to be watching every dime.

It’s unbelievable that after passing another trillion-dollar bailout, lawmakers can’t restrain themselves from digging our nation even deeper into debt.

And like the current economic disaster, both Republicans and Democrats have dirty hands on this one.

But Obama said this crap was going to stop.

He said he was going to veto this kind of waste, not affix his signature to it.

Too bad he was lying so we would elect him.

Meet the new boss….

Obama’s budget has half the earmarks your beloved Repugnants had. That’s progress in most languages. I understand it may be difficult to express in wingnut pidgin but y’all need to get over it. You lost.

Same as the old boss

Pat and Redbank,
Very silent on this issue of earmarks. Conspicuously so.

Will Obama ever admit he lied to the American people?

Doubtful.

I was most disappointed to hear our 44th President Barack Obama state that managing the public’s knowledge was important for building increased confidence in our federal government. The management of public knowledge by government and the media endangers a free democracy. Many other less successful countries come to mind when considering management of public knowledge. As a physician and lifelong learner, I am greatly disappointed that the President feels that my knowledge must be managed in order for there to be greater confidence in our leaders. As a recent example, the passage of the Economic Stimulus Package was not released to the public until less than 24 hours prior to the actual vote on the legislation. President Obama promised that his administration would operate without the input and interference of lobbyists. However, interestingly enough, the lobbyists were the first to get copies of the proposal; even prior to the legislators themselves! Finally, if the legislators were to make informed decisions about the content and ability of the economic stimulus package to improve the U.S. economy, they would have to read 2.5 pages per minute from the time the plan was available to have fully read the contents of the bill prior to voting for passage. I am disappointed that this represents the greater transparency in government promised by President Obama in the campaign. I am even more disappointed that little consideration was given to the fact that a 800 billion dollar stimulus passed today results in a 10 year indebtedness of 3.5 trillion dollars for our future generation to shoulder. Economists have agreed that unsurpassed spending and debt has led to our current economic situation. I hope that future administrations and legislators can mitigate the damage being inflicted on the American economy and workforce through the unsurpassed and reckless spending of the Obama administration.

Another 300 point dive of the Dow.

Congratulations are in order, Mr. O.

You are executing your directives flawlessly!

The destruction of the American economy is progressing as planned.

I’ll handle the media. You just keep smiling and enjoying your new perks.

Please don’t let the thermostat drop below 85 degrees, or you might catch cold.

Fondly,
Comrade George Soros

Good point, Malcolm.

The Dow has dropped 2800 points since Barry O was elected. Barry o’s “stimulus package” was never designed to restore our free-market economy. Barry o’s “stimulus package” was all about establishing a foundation for unchecked Big Government Socialism. So far, it’s been a smashing success!

Kudoos out to Barry o and Soros! I’m a little surpised the more moderate members of your party embraced your radical Marxist agenda, but hey, you and Pelosi are golden!

As Marxist tax-cheater-chief-of-staff Emanuel stated, “let’s not waste a good crisis!”

Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela are ecstatic, they aren’t gonna let a “crisis” go to waste, either!

Holy poop! I realized I’m in the wrong party! Another Obama appointee (Mr. Kirk, Trade Secretary) didn’t pay his taxes!

I’m gonna be Democrat because taxes really cramp my style.

Democrat tax cheats don’t go to jail; they go to Washington!

In just a few years, we’ll all become pro-government Myrmidons. We’ll all work for some form of bureaucracy. Free thinking, entrepreneurship, and freedom of speech all will be dead.

RIP “Land of the Free”

… but will we get fooled again?

The United States of Zimbabwe, heading down, down, down to the final disaster when there’s nothing left to redistribute, nothing left to steal, and nobody left to able or willing to save the country from its endgame.

This is where it starts.
