In a move that would make excellent political sense if Converse Chellis didn’t look like such a dirty old man, South Carolina’s State Treasurer has been literally bombarding the airwaves over the last few weeks with TV ads for a college savings fund and some Bank of America/ United Way boondoggle.
We’re not exactly sure who’s paying for the old man’s media barrage, but we know one person who isn’t – Chellis.
His campaign account has less than $125,000 in it – and he’s sure as hell not going to start blowing any of that on TV this early as long as other people are picking up the tab.
Ordinarily, we’d be in a tizzy to figure out whether any taxpayer money (or Bank of America bailout money) is going to pay for the ads, but in Chellis’ case … why would we do that?
We don’t want him to stop …
Seriously, the more this doofus is on television the better it will be for his eventual opponent, whoever he (or she) may be.
Also good for Chellis’ opponent? The fact that he’s already paying himself $1,000 a month for “office rent” and expensing everything from swanky restaurants and hotel rooms to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
In fact, Chellis has burned through $47K of the $171K he’s raised over the past year, which makes you wonder whether he’s seriously running for statewide office or just getting his donors to supplement his income a bit during the housing downturn.
Apparently, the $92,000 a year taxpayers pay him to vote however big government RINOs Hugh Leatherman and Dan Cooper tell him to vote isn’t enough to make ends meet.
No wonder Chellis is so happy to get somebody else to pick up the tab for plastering his face all over the local news.
Oh, and about the dirty old man thing … yeah …
