FITS TV Exclusive: The Santee Cooper Coal Debate

First of all, how cool is it that we’ve got our own TV capability? We’re like the grown-up news stations now, except without weather and all the whiny liberal nonsense.

Second, check out how tight our stuff is … it’s “surgical-like,” people.

Anyway, while our founding editor Sic Willie conducted all of these interviews personally, he somehow managed to keep his mouth shut and let his subjects tell the story surrounding one of the most controversial environmental issues South Carolina has dealt with in recent years.

Enjoy our inside look at the debate over the Santee Cooper coal plant …

Also, it’s worth noting that our buds over at Palmetto Scoop have a story up today on how the numbers used by S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford last week to justify his opposition to the plant are wrong, which we understand is the opposite of correct.

I want my grand kids to have a chance to catch a fish from a S.C. river, stream, or lake and be able to eat it without risk of mercury poisoning.

How can we in good conscience pass on mercury contaminated resources to our future generations?

We now know coal is dirty and emits mercury in dangerous quantities.

Let’s find another alternative quickly- while working hard to conserve energy.

Let’s not mislead ourselves into thinking coal is “cheap” without considering the terribly high cleanup costs associated with mercury poisoning.

DHEC has lost its way and is not about protecting our natural resources.

I am SO tired of old white guys telling us everything okay.. everything is definitely NOT OKAY. when you can’t eat the fish for fear of poisoning your self or your children, things are NOT OKAY. Its not a matter of coal or the dark, this is just more GOP, RUSH TO JUDGEMENT BS. There are limitless possibilities for electricity potential, not the least is the 3-4 thousand Kilowatts of OFFSHORE WIND power we are IGNORING because utilities think they cant make a profit with FREE ENERGY FUEL. . . . Back when MA BELL had control of the phone system, everyone thought there was no other way to do business – WRONG! We can make a change, and WE CAN DO WITHOUT COAL OR NUCLEAR, despite what these ‘good ole boy we like things the way they are” people in charge.

Wow. This video is embarrassing. What a bias piece of junk. They never mentioned that the new coal plants will belch out 93 pounds of mercury every year. It takes one teaspoon of mercury to poison an entire lake…

The same authority that granted these permits also declared South Carolina fish unfit for human consumption. Is this hypocrisy or is DHEC really that stupid?

Santee Cooper’s whole argument is about job creation – who the devil is going to want to move her if you can’t drink the water or eat local seafood?

These arguments are so misleading and short-sighted – politician that support Santee Cooper ought to be sued for misrepresenting the situation and kicked for being so ignorant.
