La Socialista Sitting On Stories?

In an editorial policy that seems to be at odds with its declining circulation, South Carolina’s once-largest newspaper has nailed down at least two sensational stories with “racial components” but declined to publish them, current and former reporters at the paper tell FITS.

A former reporter at The (Columbia, S.C.) State told us this week that the stories involved two prominent S.C. politicians whose staffs were dishing dirt on each other.

“There was a waterfall of leaks from both sides but these two stuck,” the former reporter told us on condition of anonymity. “We chased them, we documented them, we had them – and then a decision was made to hold them.”

A current reporter at the newspaper who also spoke with us anonymously verified that account, saying that the stories involved a statewide constitutional officer and a state lawmaker.

The reporter declined to name the politicians or elaborate on the nature of the stories, but did say that the paper had not ruled out publishing them in the future if certain “conditions” laid down by the outlet’s top brass were met.

Hold up … is The State newspaper completely insane?

It’s parent company is about to go under, it’s laying people off left and right, it may not last the year under current ownership and the only reason people buy the rag anymore is because of it’s sports section.

What “conditions” are they waiting for, exactly?

Should La Socialista "Cough Up" Its Stories?

The Gonzalez brothers would be very disappointed.

The State is also sitting on a story about ghost accounts being paid from Social Security in the state of South Carolina. Some of these accounts have been paying for twenty years , into an unknown black hole.
Our local politicians won’t allow investigations.
You tell me what’s wrong….. because I am being profoundly abused by not allowing investigations.
I am a former Registered Nurse who last scrubbed angioplasties at Providence Hospital. The SSA wants everyone to believe I am crazy and never worked…..
WRONG WRONG WRONG> check tax returns and allow me to present witnesses, ie: two members of the South Carolina Adult Protection Coordinating Council …. I worked FOR THEM>
I WORKED>< and someone claimed Social Security money in my name for the entire time I worked, PLUS the almost four years that I was forced to wait to get the opportunity to get the benefits restored.

The State won’t tell ya’ll…. Fits won’t either so I will.

A former reporter told me under the condition of anonymity that UFO’s are real but The State is SITTING ON THE STORY!

By ~O~ on February 12th, 2009 at 11:07 am

Liz, is Donnie Myers involved? Because he seemed happier than a queer in a schlong tree that all the unemployment orchestrations he hurled my way would totally screw social security benefits in my old age.

Have I have become myopic?

The State has strong evidence of Jean Toal’s corruption in those attorney discipline cases and won’t print that either. Their excuse is that she has a “right” to be corrupt because the Constitution gave her absolute authority over the legal profession. Time, Liz, Time. But I know of your frustration.

Are you talking about “Der Staat?”

By mightierpen on February 12th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Not knowing the actual story and how much The State has, I won’t make a judgment on when they should publish the story. However, I do take issue with your reason why they shouldn’t hold it. Though now contrary to the way most media outlets operate, the editorial dept. and the business office should be completely independent of one another. Decisions on editorial content should NEVER, EVER be based on the financial condition of the paper. It goes against all journalistic ethics.

Even hand-delivered attorney complaints can be met at the downstairs door with pre-arranged bunglers. And thugs on the sidewalk leading into the building — giving you the “e-y-e.” Ooooooooooooh Eeeeeeeeee! It is freaking Amazing!

SITTING….????

Your too KIND….. Sic !!

Just look at every paper in the STATE….today ?!?

Talk about ….playing Peek a BOO with the ..TRUTH !!!

By Mincing Words on February 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Jesus, Sic! You’ve got quite a readership. What, did every wack-job in town decide to write in on this one?

By MAB on February 12th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Not yet, Mincing-person: We await BIN’s arrival any moment!

By Rick on February 12th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Please, MAB. Please tell me BIN has moved on to some other state.

By BIN News on February 12th, 2009 at 9:51 pm

MAB,

Sorry. We heard gub’ner moonbeam was against the new coal plant, so we took a few days to build us a new “flux capacitor.” It’s working!!

BIN now has 1.21 jigawatts of power to keep us going, going and going.

But we digress.

Responsible news sources (like The State) will often “sit” on wacko stories and even sit on stories their “gut” tells them are true – when they lack reliable sources and proof. It is called “responsible journalism.”

A term that bewilders bloggers like sic(k) willie.

sic(k) willie thrives on wacko stories. He has “broken wind” on so many.

Like his (Strike 1) claim a Midlands’ elected official has a Strom problem.

Like his (Strike 2) claim the gub’ner paid off on a “poor little black girl.”

Like his (Strike 3) wacko scam about a SLED “beat down squad.”

Three strikes and you’re out, sic(k) willie.

MAB, if sic(k) willie’s hit count drops another 10 percent, will you let him post some soft core porn pics of you to boost it? We await your answer.

Funny BIN, even still, Sic has gotten pick up in national media outlets like FOX NEWS CHANNEL, LA Times, Politico, Reuters, etc. etc. etc. And he’s been quoted in the likes of the Wall Street Journal, Times of London, Harper’s…the list goes on. You can read it here:

Jealous yet?

By MAB on February 12th, 2009 at 11:21 pm

BIN,

I am 46 years old, dude. The days for soft pictures of any kind are but a twinkle in our collective mind’s eye. I don’t do “Silky Mom” posts — the ones my husband gets a *Royal* kick out of — where this middle aged woman gets a snoot full and decorates her Christmas tree buck naked & stuff like that.

[Agreed Sic:the BIN-Block seems warranted, but this stuff is just too much fun.]

By BIN News on February 13th, 2009 at 12:11 am

You Know, even the Inquirer gets mentioned in responsible news media when they make enough wacko posts. We are not impressed. But sic(k) willie has soft core porn to fluff up his hit count. The boy has learned that lesson.

MAB, from everything we have heard, you underestimate yourself. You know your workouts make a difference. And when you decide to get another “snoot full” and decorate a Christmas tree “buck naked,” please document the event.

Have sic(k) willie post pics. It will put his hit count through the roof.
