Then there is the case were another Hartsville magistrate had his office “broken into” and another $70,000 was stolen from the safe.

And let’s not forget the Darlington magistrate (and son of former state Senator Spot Mozingo) who died in prison after admitting that he had sexually molested his two granddaughters while on the bench.

I do not know about other counties but Darlington is full of political cronies as magistrates. This was not always the case. At one time Darlington County had the finest men and women serving as magistrates. That entire cohort retired after many years without even an odor of impropriety.

In fact there is a gentleman from Darlington that has the backing of the several former magistrates, who has discussed an appointment with Senator Malloy but to no avail. This man is an Ivy League educated native of the county, Special Forces veteran and former state police officer.

I guess Senator Malloy would rather reward his poll watchers than select the most qualified to serve as magistrate judges…Said but I hope that someday things will get back to normal here in Darlington County.

After all arrogance and ignorance is a deadly combination in terms of the potential for political survival.
