Powerful Stuff
Former S.C. Governor (and U.S. Energy Secretary) James Edwards has a simple but powerful message for the environmental kooks lining up to block pretty much every effort to keep the power flowing to South Carolina homes and businesses.
“I’ve been an environmentalist all my life,” Edwards said. “But the worst environment I can think of is cold, hungry, out of work and in the dark.”
Edwards says that’s what low-income South Carolinians are facing if a new coal plant in the Pee Dee is not approved.
And while Edwards declined to counsel current S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford on his impending decision concerning the facility, it wasn’t hard to read between the lines.
“I just cannot believe that any responsible leader would oppose this plant,” he said.
Edwards was joined this morning by State Rep. Terry Alexander, who argued that with unemployment skyrocketing in his district, the 9,300 construction and 200 permanent high-paying jobs tied to the plant were absolutely vital to the local economy of the Pee Dee.
“The bottom line right now is jobs,” Alexander said. “And with this plant comes additional jobs.”
The governor is holding a press conference later this afternoon, with multiple sources telling FITS he plans on announcing his opposition to the facility.
We’ll bring you the governor’s decision on this later today …

And I just cannot believe any responsible leader would support the plant. Is that “powerful stuff” too?

Whoa…..do you really think scientists and engineers come from the Pee Dee?
HAHAHAHAHA the illusion of jobs coming out of this is about as hilarious as Rep. Terry Alexander’s (whoever the hell that is) SAT scores.

Whoa-
Yes there are scientists and engineers from the Pee Dee. One of the two South Carolina natives to win the Noble prize hailed from Kingstree.
Please limit your comments to things you actually have some knowledge of.

If it’s a choice between listening to Governor Edwards (who also served as President of MUSC and as Secretary of Energy under Reagan)or tree huggers like Anne Timberlake and the Global Warming Guy (aka Dana Beach), I’m going with Governor Edwards.

Which is fine if you don’t live a mile from the site, and if your children don’t attend school a mile from the site. I wouldn’t listen to the tree-huggers either. I say let’s put it in Columbia. What’s wrong with that?

I hope Sanford opposes!! Do ya’ll have wind in SC? Why not have a wind farm, then it will not harm the environment, kids can go to school, families won’t have to worry about the impact of such on their environment, and people will have energy, what’s wrong with that? Coal, Nuke, doesn’t matter, it’s bad bad bad.

Let Edwards move to another state so he can pollute mercury into the environment so his kids and his grandparents can enjoy the fruits of their “environmentalist”.
Gee whiz we can pollute and create jobs. We can also conserve and create jobs – but that takes more thought and more planning.

Or better yet..
lets do nothing and talk about everything wrong that everyone we dont like is doing. Thats pretty much the status quo from this crowd.
Besides..the world is ending in 2012 anyway..so why does it even matter?

What is wrong with utilizing solar, wind, etc. energy? Let me guess, the coal and nuclear sources are lining someone’s pocket in the industry. Some millionare somewhere would lose from it and draw their funding from something else. It’s all political. Keep staying divided, people, on everything while the world itself is wasting away, and yes, Mr. Reynolds, talk, talk, talking. The politicos love it. With the status quo, they can do as they please.
We could wipe out poverty, cure numerous diseases, etc., but god do the politicos and their constituents love to do the talk instead of the walk.
