Until a few weeks ago, we had never heard of the “Sammies.â€
Outside of a cooler of Boston Lager, anyway.
So what are they?
Well, the “Sammies” are awards presented annually to “bloggers, filmmakers, open records champions, and other government watchdogs committed to advancing individual and economic liberty.â€
Which means they’re a lot like the Grammys, except without all the bling, plastic surgery, “y’knows” and crazy after-party shenanigans perpetrated by out-of control entourages.
Presented by the Sam Adams Alliance – a Chicago-based nonprofit with a heavy emphasis on new media – the “Sammies” are in their second year of dishing out thousands of dollars in prizes (and cool Sam Adams bobbleheads) to emerging new media superstars.
Anyway, we bring this up because South Carolina has one of the most active political blogospheres in the entire country, a distinction that takes on added significance given our state’s starring role in the quadrennial presidential nominating process.
So if you’ve got somebody you’d like to nominate, just e-mail your thoughts and suggestions to the following e-mail address: sammies@samadamsalliance.org.
Oh, and if you want to tell ‘em how much you love (or hate) Sic Willie, by all means knock yourselves out …
