SI Swimsuit Issue: It’s That Time Again

In the worst print advertising year in history, Sports Illustrated is betting on its annual swimsuit edition to shore up the magazine’s bottom line.

Scheduled to be released this week, the latest installment of airbrushed, computer-enhanced babes that you will never, ever see in real life is once again a magnet for controversy.

Just not the fun kind of controversy …

From Fanhouse:

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is one of America’s best-selling magazines every year, but this year it probably won’t be available at America’s No. 1 retailer.

Wal-Mart is not planning to stock this year’s Swimsuit Issue — or a lot of other magazines — because it’s currently in a dispute with the magazine publishing industry over a plan by publishers to charge an extra 7 cents a copy to deliver their magazines to retail stores.

Obviously, this would be a huge blow to Sports Illustrated, seeing as the swimsuit edition accounts for roughly 11% of its revenue.

Not only that, it would be a huge blow for eleven-year-old boys everywhere.

The swimsuit issue is an institution, people, a rite of passage for thousands of brave young men willing to assume the risks associated with lifting the mattress on dad’s side of the bed.

Seriously, can’t you just feel that glossy cover on the tips of your fingertips?

Anyway, here are a few pics of SI babe Brooklyn Decker to tide you over …
