Right now, U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins are holding all the cards.
Along with Pennsylvania “Republican†Arlen Specter – Snowe and Collins will determine a fundamental choice of direction at a crucial fork in the American road.
Will our country blow nearly a trillion dollars that we don’t have on new government programs that we don’t need?
Or will we score a rare victory on behalf of taxpayers and a free market economy that’s already been abandoned to the tune of $10 trillion over the last four months.
In a nutshell, that’s the choice confronting our country.
Both Snowe and Collins are Republicans, in name anyway, and both represent the State of Maine.
Also, both are – like Specter – on the verge of voting for President Barack Obama’s “economic stimulus” plan, the current version of which will cost $1.18 trillion with interest.
And that’s not counting the ten trillion we’ve already spent on government “solutions” to an economy that keeps getting worse no matter how much the feds haphazardly throw at it.
Frankly, should Snowe and Collins end up casting their votes for this second “Mother of All Bailouts” today, we think it’s time for drastic measures.
Like getting rid of Maine.
Seriously, if “Mainers” want to be socialists so damn bad, they should just secede and join Canada.
Don’t subject the rest of us to this crap.

Whoa, there! Let’s not be rash, Will. I realize The Pine Tree State has a couple of stinkers for senators but do we really want to cut the entire state loose?
Think of the ramifications: Without Maine, what would happened to the US clipper ship industry? Who would provide the lobsters to keep the tanks stocked at grocery stores and restaurants? And wherever could we find enough individuals to man our nation’s lighthouses?
And, besides, Maine has long served as an effective buffer between the rest of our nation and those devilish New Brunswickers, who’ve never forgiven the US for the shellacking we gave their British brethren in the War of 1812.

Oh, boo hoo. Fitz is upset. Get over it Folks, y’all lost. Obama is going to make your party irrelevant. Just like FDR made the original party of Herbert Hoover a joke, Obama is going to make y’all, the Neo-Hooverites a regional party of angry white men.
We know what works in a depression. GOVERNMENT spending. Tax cuts don’t work.
Res ipsa loquitur.

Nothing is more enjoyable than watching you rightwingers go ballistic. You lost. Get over it. Your overweight drug-addled spokesman is pathetic, and if he weren’t so entertaining, I’d vomit.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. After 2010, with 63 Senate votes, the GOP will complete its conversion to a regional party of angry white men.
Keep ranting. You’re fun to watch.

A paranoid, deeply out of touch regional party is going to cast out all non-aligned Republicans. I agreed totally. Then you can have Demint and Palin as your super ticket in 2012.
To be fair, the one thing both parties should be driving for is term limtis. Watching the debacle in the House and Senate is enough to make even the most idealogically blinkered partsian see the value in sending the tards back home.

Weren’t Snowe and Collins the same senators that bailed on making Bush’s tax cuts permanent because of their “concerns” over inflating the deficit???
OOOOPS
That makes these two “gals” hypocrites – I know – redundant when we’re talking about politicians – but especially those from that godforsaken piece of tundra known as maine.
And if anyone was hoping for more from Specter you ought to be ashamed of yourselves….let’s just hope the true republicans in PA toss that sorry low-wattage gurgler out of office.
