After a heartbreaking four-point road loss to Florida earlier this week, South Carolina’s surprisingly competitive basketball team got back on track yesterday with a 79-68 win over an outmatched Georgia squad.
The win moved the Gamecocks to 17-5 on the year and put them squarely in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament bid in head coach Darrin Horn’s first season at the helm.
In fact, if South Carolina can win four of its final seven regular season games and at least one SEC tournament game, it should manage to escape the dreaded “Big Dance bubble†and make the tournament for the first time in five years.
Meanwhile, up the road at Clempsun, the tenth-ranked Tigers blew a nineteen-point lead in the second half to fall 65-61 to Florida State.
Over the last eleven minutes of the game, the Farmers were outscored 23-4.
Unbelievable.
Of course with only three losses in the brutal ACC, Clempsun has already punched its ticket for the tournament.
If you haven’t seen the Tigers yet this season, they’ve got home games left against Maryland (Feb. 17), Virginia Tech (Feb. 25) and Virginia (March 3).
Gamecock fans also have three more chances to catch their team at home, against Arkansas (Feb. 21), Kentucky (Feb. 25) and Tennessee (March 5).
