GOP Governors: Here’s Your T-Shirt
Last week not a single Republican House member caved on the Obama bailout. And two days ago, the GOP elected a black man to lead its national party.
But just when you thought Republicans might have finally figured it out (which is surprisingly easy to do when you’re not in power), along come America’s GOP governors to screw it up.
Led by former veep nominee Sarah Palin, Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Republican governors are actively lobbying Washington lawmakers … except they’re not urging them to stick to their guns on behalf of the American taxpayers, they’re asking them to vote for the O-bailout.
Wait … did we miss something?
Oh right, these are Bush Republicans.
Apparently, their definition of “fiscal conservatism” now involves bailing out failed bureaucracies on the backs of the taxpayers … with money nobody has.
Rather than make the hard choices and cut from the prodigious amount of government waste that’s accumulated from a decade of chronic overspending, these taxpayer turncoats see an easy way to evade their responsibility and endear themselves to the O-nation.
And all it costs them is a little more of the soul of the party they claim to represent …
Even one of the so-called “good guys” is going along with the scam.
From the AP:
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who is widely viewed as a potential presidential contender in 2012, said governors have little choice but to accept the relief being offered. “States have to balance their budgets,” he said. “So if we’re going to go down this path, we are entitled to ask for our share of the money.”
Wait … entitled? Since when did that become a Republican concept? Particularly when we’re referring to state governments that embarked on years of unsustainable spending.
So are there any GOP governors out there standing up against this $900 billion atrocity?
Well yes, actually. Our governor.
“It’s incumbent on me … to speak out against what I believe is ultimately incredibly harmful to the economy, to taxpayers and to the worth of the U.S. dollar,” S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford told the AP. “This plan is a huge mistake and is going to prolong and deepen this recession.”
Sanford also said he was disappointed so few GOP governors were joining him, although given his relationship with “Republican” politicians in Columbia, he should probably be used to that by now.
Anyway, it’s sad to see so many of these so-called conservatives (Palin especially) cave like this.
Say it ain’t so, Sarah.

Repugnant Economics got us here so we need more of the same. Yeah, right!
I loved the “bottom-of-the-birdcage” Republican from Iowa who complained Uncle Tom Steel was a liberal!
As a member of the Democratic party, I love it. Keep it up, Neo-Hooverites. You’ll be the minority for the rest of Folks’ life and his daughters’. Is that the Rule against Perpetuities, Mande?
