There’s A Lot Of (Commie) Man Love In The Room

Two years ago, industry officials warned S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell that our state’s outdated approach to managing its port facilities was going to come back and bite us in the ass.

Well, now that our ass is “getting bit,” you might expect Harrell to question the wisdom of the State Ports Authority (SPA) asking the guy most responsible for that disaster to choose the agency’s next leader.

Yeah … not so much.

Yesterday, Harrell issued the following warm and fuzzy statement on the selection of resident socialist/ political gadfly Bill Stern to lead the SPA search committee:

Last week Bill Stern was selected to serve as chair of a search committee to find a new president and CEO for the State Ports Authority. My confidence in Bill Stern was confirmed today when I saw the quality of the people he has named to serve on the search committee … Bill Stern is a great choice to chair the search effort. I am confident he and his committee will find the best qualified person in the nation to fill this important job.

Good God. These two need to get a room.

Of course, Comrade Bobby doesn’t turn tricks like that for just anyone, as Comrade Stern’s company ponied up $3,500 to Harrell’s political action committee not once but twice last year, according to filings with the State Ethics Commission.

Hopefully Bobby at least had the courtesy to give him a “reacharound.”

Also of interest is the fact that Harrell’s praise for Stern was picked up by the Palmetto Scoop, whose editor just happens to be a paid employee of Richard Quinn & Associates, who serve as Stern’s political advisors.

What other media outlets picked up the commie man love?

None.

Well … until now. :)

Obviously, given Stern’s track record running our port system into the ground, it’s not at all surprising that the only people willing to say nice things about him are getting paid.
