Nikki Haley: Ready For Prime-Time

Every time we try to cure ourselves of the impulse to shamelessly promote S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley, she does something that reminds us why we fell in love with her in the first place.

Seriously, people. The conspiracy theorists can throw out whatever innuendo they want about that statement, but it won’t change the fact that Haley is a conservative rock star with a seemingly limitless reservoir of upward mobility.

And while it’s certainly true that many State House insiders view Haley’s recent demotion by House Speaker Bobby Harrell as a setback, the truth is she probably scored one of the most decisive statewide political wins we’ve ever seen on the issue of government transparency.

Not only did her efforts compel both legislative chambers to dramatically change the way they conduct the people’s business, it was a statewide PR coup that has her firmly ensconced as a top-tier statewide prospect.

Then last week, Haley comes along and delivers what we can only assume is going to be a stump speech for statewide office.

How good is it?

Yeah, it’s amazing … Haley comes off as confident but not cocky, brainy but not boring, personable but not patronizing … everything you want in a political speech.

Oh, and she’s as always dead-on when it comes to conservative ideology.

Many have pegged Haley as a possible gubernatorial candidate for 2010, but she’s said she’s not interested in that job.

Accordingly, speculation has turned to a possible run for State Treasurer, which as we’ve noted in the past has the current occupant of that office – longtime RINO Converse Chellis – scrambling to manufacture some conservative credentials out of thin air.

Incidentally, that process continued yesterday when he arrived quite belatedly to the government transparency party.

After Haley’s recent speech was posted on the website SC Hotline, several folks who had never heard Haley speak before called us expressing their amazement.

“That’s the kind of speech (S.C. Gov. Mark) Sanford wishes he could give,” one of them told us.

“If she runs, Chellis is toast,” said another.

Obviously, we concur with both assessments.

In a world where good ole’ boys like to boast about conservative ideology (before turning around and voting in secret to grow government at obscene levels), this “gal from Bamberg” is walking the walk.

As a result, she’s taking the fight to them on more levels than one … and winning.

Update - Looks like we’re not the only ones crushing on Nikki.

You know, there was a guy who only 5 years ago was a State Senator, now he’s our President… just sayin….

We need Nikki to run!…..for something!……anything! Run Nikki!

Nothing like a hot chick from Bamberg. Go Nikki.

By RedBank Bar on January 30th, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Sorry, wingnuts, she won’t be winning anything.

I understand she believes in evolution so she’s obviously unqualified to win any sort of Repugnant Party state-wide primary.

Conservatives are so cute. The way you live in the cave, with your disdain for reality, science and common sense. It’s adorable.

Nikki, like all the rest, simple trots out the simplified construct of reality, called ideaology, and substitutes it for common sense and reality. That’s worked great for SC and the country at large. That’s why Republicans are so popular.

Don’t worry, here in SC reality and common sense don’t matter. You folks just keep voting for the party that hates black and gays. That’s the ticket.

She’s got my vote.

By Lady200 on January 30th, 2009 at 3:33 pm

I’m a Democrat woman but I know that I would vote for her. Most women would because she is very real and fair. She doesn’t try to act or pretend like the other politicians. If you have ever met her what you see is what you get. Strong, honest, blunt, real. That’s what we need right now.

By Recovering Lobbyist on January 30th, 2009 at 6:58 pm

Pat Hendrix: it is ideology that brings us our latest stimulus pork barrel bill, a proposal to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, a proposal to allow unionization by postcard that will fundamentally alter the employment doctrine in SC, and a proposal to allow fifty different air quality standards for cars that won’t just put the American auto industry out of business, but will result in dramatically more expensive cars for consumers.

Make no mistake, there are plenty of bad ideas from both parties. That is why we should all study every candidate, and vote for the best candidate no matter their party label.

As for Nikki Haley, I would support her for any office. She is the cream of the crop, and a best hope for the future of our state and possibly our nation. There are others as well, and we need to keep the political hacks in our state from holding them back because they know the people like Nikki Haley will cut off their government-funded largess as lobbyists, campaign consultants, bloggers, etc.

AMAZING! With Haley as Treasurer, Barrett as Governor, and Gowdy as AG, this state could actually get things back together!

What a DREAM TEAM!!!!

This is exactly the kind of speech that elected officials should bring to the table.
Nikki was stunning as she handled each topic with grace and clarity. As a teen, it is sometimes difficult to understand what adults are talking about concerning politics for so long, but Nikki’s speech was simply clear. I am in no way saying that it sounded low in diction, but that with her reasoning and examples it’s hard not to understand and agree with her on the issues. You go Nikki! Know that you are being heard: by other officials, by the general public, and definitly by teenagers at Dutch Fork High School. :)

By Ron on January 31st, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Will, she’ll get a lot of support for state treasurer, but why not SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE HALEY?

By Ron on January 31st, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Will,
Who do we have in the wings to take over as the SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE?

By Earl Capps on January 31st, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Crush, be careful, a lot of hot girls in Bamberg are related – two or three times. But yeah, Nikki’s a heck of a rocker in the House. It’ll be interesting seeing where she ends up.

By the right side on February 1st, 2009 at 12:11 am

she is just the creation of a pr machine

By Richard on February 1st, 2009 at 1:29 pm

A PR machine manufactured by Nikki Haley, edited by Nikki Haley, sold by Nikki Haley, and re-packaged by Nikki Haley! You can’t get any more real! Vote Nikki Haley for GOVERNOR!!!
