SC Unemployment Soars To 9.5%

South Carolina’s unemployment rate can fly higher than an eagle, people.

In fact, at 9.5% in December, it may soon find itself in a position to challenge its longtime nemesis, the state’s employment rate.

No seriously, all we have to do to give it a fighting chance is keep the knucklehead former lawmakers over at the SC Employment Security Commission (and their legislative masters) in charge of creating jobs.

In unrelated news, did you ever know that you’re our hero? You’re everything we wish we could be?

Because you so are … the wind beneath our wings …

Good God, that’s sad.

Actually SCESC is not in charge of “creating jobs” but hooking people up with the jobs that exist. It’s up to Pretty Boy Taylor and the Commerce Department to CREATE Jobs. Why not ask how they’re doing at that?

What does Joe the Inheritor know about finding a JOB. Daddy handed everything to him on a silver platter.

As long as the unemployment checks keep flowing (Barry’s latest proposal is to extend these from March 09 to December 09) that bird won’t be flying lower.

The commissioners hear appeals. Its Sanford and HIS Commerce Dept that are supposed to create jobs. Commerce has been given everything they’ve asked for by the Legislature, from the 7 miilion dollar closing slush fund to the multi million dollar presentation room.
Truth is that Sanford is to busy running for Pres to worry about SC. HHS can’t justify their wreckless spending, PRT goes to a budget hearing with no budget prepared to present, HHS lies about their stuff, DSS has a years worth budget increase stolen, on and on. Its really hard for Sanford to run SC like a business when he has never been in business and can’t manage his own agencies. How many does a week does the PRT director work? Trips to China bringing in tourists?

The Commerce Department is not supposed to create jobs, SCGOP and Mattheus, and the fact that you think that shows why your party is in a free-fall. No government agency is supposed to have any role in the economy except to stay the hell out of it.

The PRIVATE sector is supposed to create jobs. But it can’t, because our backwards legislature keeps passing laws that put small businesses out of business, and more every day. Contrary to what the Speaker of the House believes, small businesses are the real job creators in South Carolina. Or were, before “leaders” like Harrell and Leatherman and McConnell and Cooper announced they were putting themselves and three university presidents in charge of “job growth.” Yeah — those guys are gonna do a great job at coming up with innovative ideas and turning a profit!

Say what you will about Joe Taylor, he did run a successful business in the real world without government help. And the governor has zero power to do any of the things that really make a difference in economic development, like cutting taxes and fixing workers’ comp laws — not to mention reforming education so we have a competent workforce. All that is the job of the legislature, like everything is. They run the state, they call the shots, they make the rules, they pass the fees and taxes and regulations that are choking businesses. You don’t like our high unemployment rate? Well, ask the leaders at the Statehouse how their “jobs plan” at Innovista is going.
